Welcome to the first ever edition of Rosbif, the University of Nantes Anglophone magazine! Â Against a back-drop of blockades, protest and uncertainty, we've created an Englishlanguage escape. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a little bit of culture, both high and low brow.

KIM K: INEXPLICABLE INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON

Kim Kardashian has been in the public eye for more than a decade.

Indeed, over 108 million people follow her everyday adventures on Instagram. But this widespread interest in Kim Kardashian seems as surprising as it is inexplicable.

After becoming a famous reality TV star with her family and her sextape getting leaked online, she has never stopped evolving. Nowadays, Kim is the 6th most followed personality on Instagram. In order to understand her current and undeniable fame, we asked people what they think of her, and the answers were unanimous, were something along the lines of: "She’s a fake, provocative and vulgar woman who became famous for showing her ass and her boobs. A bimbo who only succeeded her life thanks to the powerful influence of her family in showbiz.”

Some younger women see Kim Kardashian as an idol and a role model. In her career she is an American success story. They idolise her personality which they describe as atypical and extraordinary.

Nowadays, she's a very influential media personality, a social network star and a businesswoman who leads a famous cosmetic brand. She is bathed in fame, money and glory, along with her four sisters, her very joyful husband Kanye West and her children who (besides bearing IKEA product names) still don't understand what is happening in their lives.

The reality is that Kim Kardashian is smarter than we all think since she managed to create her own empire and to build up a name all around the world: "The Kardashians".

But people's views vary drastically by gender and age: on the one hand, even if they are conscious of the fact that Kim K doesn't have any talent, men are mad about her plasticfantastic look and her curvaceous body. On the other hand, some women are in despair about the image she conveys to her young audience but give her credit for making a living in all kinds of ways.

In my opinion, Kim Kardashian has nothing special and in few years, she will disappear and will take her ass with her. As Andy Warhol said: "In the futur everyone will have 15 minutes of fame" and it seems like Kim K's time could be running out.

AU REVOIR LÁ-HAUT MAEVA HENRY FILM CRITIC

“Au Revoir Là-Haut” was produced by the French film producer Albert Dupontel, who also plays one of the main characters. The captain Henri d’Aulnay-Pradelle loves everything about war. So much so that he intentionally kills two of his soldiers to provoke a new fight with the Nazis. The problem is that Albert Maillard witnesses this terrible event.

Another soldier, Edouard Péricourt, fakes his own death in order to avoid going home to his family. He was severely injured during the war- a shower of shells fell close to him so he lost the bottom part of his face. He’s really ashamed of it and moreover, he doesn’t have a really good relationship with his father.

His friend, Albert Maillard, helped him everyday until recovery and even after.

One day, Edouard who is an art lover, decided to create fake war memorials to win money. At the same time, Henri d’AulnayPradelle finds an unusual way to profit from war fatalities. At that moment, a big adventure begins…

BODY ACCEPTANCE Being a girl in the 21th century is quite challenging and I think women and girls need to learn how to accept their bodies. We are constantly comparing ourselves to what we see on social media, on TV, or simply in the streets looking at ads or other people passing by. If we see our kilos, stretches marks or cellulite as flaws it is the fault of media and society.

A lot of prejudice is anchored in our modern society. Indeed, from a very young age, girls are conditioned to think and to see things a certain way. When parents are expecting a girl they often paint the bedroom in pink with fairies and princesses. But what if the girl wants to be a superhero like Spiderman? Why is pink considered as a “girl” colour? Since when do colours have genders? Why is it more “girly” to have long hair? All these codes are deeply entrenched in our society and it is difficult to is change them.

A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE AWARE THAT THINGS NEED TO CHANGE BUT IT IS VERY SLOW. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A DISNEY MOVIE WITH A GIRL THAT WEIGHTS MORE THAN 35 KG OR A BARBIE DOLL WITHOUT MAKEUP AND A REGULAR SIZED BODY.

When it comes to me and my personal experience, I had a very hard time during middle school, I was taller than everyone else, one year younger, I wore glasses etc. It took me a very long time to accept that I couldn’t change the way I looked and more importantly I didn’t need to! High school was like a revelation. I started liking myself accepting who I was. I think it had to do with my friends, for the first time I had really good friends who liked me for who I was. It was hard to do but when I stopped caring about the rest of the world’s opinion about myself, I felt so much better.

I am now a 20-year-old and even if I still struggle sometime with my body image when I compare myself to models on Instagram, in general I feel quite secure about myself. I accept my “flaws”, my stretches marks, my height, my glasses etc. because they are part of me and make me who I am.

NIGHTMARE PEOPLE Th e majority of people live in d reams. Th ey are ambitious, want to make many th ings and th ey can d o anyth ing th emselves with a bit of imagination. Th ey also like d oing activities with th eir friend s and spend time with oth ers. Th ese people live as th ey please, th ey are free.

But a small proportion of people live in nightmares. They want to delete all the dreams, get people in trouble and establish terror in the world. For that, they attack the people of dreams in different ways. Some of them only use verbal attacks and convince the dreamers they attack that they are useless and insult them Others can be more extreme and physically attack the dreamer they target. And a minority of them try to eradicate dreams by carrying out shootings, terrorist attacks, or causing wars, killing dreamers.

Slowly they win and fewer people live in dreams. Everybody is afraid of these kinds of people and what they are capable of. But the dreamers need to resist and fight the nightmares like the light wins against the darkness, because the dreamers need to defend liberty and the many rights they have.

For that, we need to live our dreams, do what we want and ignore the nightmare people.

When we see a flower We are immediately struck By its breathtaking beauty and We can’t wait to pick it up.

The flower is now in our hands.

So we start to smell it And it smells so good.

No more beauty in this world No certainty. I see a burning field With no more flowers and grass.

Men are like this field, they Are in this field: Seeking twigs to light a fire, Then forgetting to fan the flames; Picking beautiful flowers and throwing them away.

In this world where people look the same Is there anybody who seeks to preserve The real nature of things?

Is there anyone willing to take care of a flower?

Is there anyone who actually takes care of us?

Still striving.

They keep trying to change me They’re failing Some of them even hurt me They’re still trying But they should know I’m going through the fire And I’m growing through the fire Like a Phoenix that keeps raising I have power keeping me standing I say it clear or I don’t say it at all There is no need to take a role I did me, and I still do You might like me and you might not Criticize me and bring me down Consider me being a fool or a clown It isn’t the clothes that you bought But the battles that you’ve fought That is making you who you are This isn’t my first, or my last It’s going to pass really fast Anyway I will respect you whatever you say Cause That’s how I was taught Values over it all, Hope, understanding and positivity Remembering that after all, You can go through the fire with a smile Love being your point of gravity.

When your heart gets broken It’s the cracks inside that let in the light That gives you power to stand up and fight That keeps you alive and woken You’ll be hurt, let in the pain There is a lot from it to gain You’ll smile again after the rain It will indicate your path and your lane Tough decisions and rough reasons People changing with the seasons But change is natural so don’t let it scare you Let change make you a better you It’s a part of growing up After trying a messing up As long as the heart is still where it always was You’re on the safe side; you’re on a good ride There is no experience that isn’t human Love and heart break date from the Greek and the Roman Sometimes you’ll have to learn it the hard way Try and fail and repeat it every day You have to deal with it all, As you raise and as you fall I know the bad is contagious I read But so is the good “If you’re enemy is hungry, feed him; If you’re enemy I thirsty give him something to drink; Overcome evil with good” If you believe, sincerely, that the good does not exist, Then be it Be the hope in a hopeless world Leave your phone and your pc And be the change you want to see, Be the love you never received The light in someone’s dark night The support when someone loses sight of what’s right Change the world with your perception of it Be the vision you have in mind Always love, forgive and be kind The world does not need teachers and preachers, It needs evidence, examples and leaders, So Be IT.

I don’t understand I had it all I threw it all Different culture, different land I wanted to start over And so I did I thought I had forever To come back and change my mind Only then I realized I had minimized the pain of finding my own track Because Once you get in that train, there is no going back I started feeling Life racing Days running Dates flipping through the calendar I walked alone These empty Halls People on the phone Or standing by the walls I am Looking at my reflection It's looking back at me Wondering what the hell did I do with my life?

Dad said,” you’re not only supposed to live your choices You are supposed to love them too” And I do. It’s just that I’ve been on this train too long And I’ve questioned myself a couple of hundred times Was it all wrong?

I can’t concentrate Feels like I missed my gate Can’t seem to get it right, Am I losing a fight, to nobody but fate?

A hole in me keeps growing Like a hungry monster eating me out And the most terrifying thing is, I made that The hole, the monster, it was my creation It was my decision And yet through it all, Through the hard times and the long days The dark nights and the wrong ways I smile because I know that one day…
