Peppy Palette

surface pattern design portfolio

Hello there ! Welcome to my portfolio. I’m currently pursuing a Certificate course in Fashion Graphics and Product Modelling from NIFT Mumbai. My desire for creativity prompted me to take a career leap from IT to art and design. I believe the biggest form of freedom is Freedom of expression hence I love making abstract art and write poetry. My philosophy of design attempts to fulfill the contemporary aesthetic needs of the customers who like to use unique products which are eye-catching and providing print solutions to market for various product line like womens apparel, home decor, stationery, etc. My work is organic and a mix of abstract in nature. Colours always feed my creative soul so my design process always starts with a colour palette in my mind. I strongly believe that colours have their own emotion and language to speak . So I curate lots of colourful clothes, decor items and stationery around me. It helps to lift my spirits up and gives me a high to start my work. I have a thing for dark chocolates !

Design brief Peppy palette, a personal project, is an amalgamation of three theme based print collections, Aqua, Blooms and Wilderness, designed for surface printing in Fashion and personal taccessories. It’s designed for Spring-summer season. I have done trend research for 2019-2020 Prints and Graphics by studying the WGSN trend forecast.

Today I have come across an ocean So big and mysterious Where I’m diving and diving into deep waters Finding pearls, shells, corals and what not. Embracing myself with nature’s love and cool waters of this ocean Where knowledge has no end. I feel the infinity when I see things around, And soon realize there’s more to it which is unknown. - m.k.nandrey

Inspiration My initial inspiration came from the aquarium that I have kept at my home and one day I suddenly grabbed the camera to click the photos of these water beauties. I captured as many photos I could and went on to work with my moodboard thereafter along with trend research.

My Explorations I used watercolours for florals and some handdrawn motifs and rest were directly explored on my wacom tablet.

Aqua As the name sugggests it breathes fresh flowy and cool vibes for the summer. According to WGSN trend study, I found that pastels of green and blue are going to be more prominent this summer. I have chosen cool tinted colours like neo-mint, seagreen, dark teal, iced-blue, dark blue and some warm shades of orange, pink, yellow and coral.

Blooms According to WGSN trend study, florals are perennial and summer season is incomplete without it. Handpainted florals are more in trend, hence I used watercolours to explore their depth and textures. Blooms’ are inspired from the bright colourful flowers Gomferna and Hibiscus straight from my garden.

Wilderness According to the WGSN trend study there is an increasing popularity with animal skin prints especially leopeard and snake prints along with camouflages and upcoming cow-hide print. In 2019-2020, the animal prints are going to dominate the prints in womenswear apparel, with the perennial leopeard print still being loved by the youth. I have developed the prints and motifs with more dynamic colours to make it more abstract and quirky.
