Historic Context
Canadian culture is highly influenced by its colonizers -the French and the British-, not less important is the influence of the country's indigenous cultures, which added to the large number of emigrants from all over the world make Canada a nation of great artistic wealth.
On July 1, 1867, Canada became partially independent from the British Empire. On September 28, 1867 in Canada, Toronto became the capital of Ontario. On July 20, 1871, British Columbia became a Canadian territory. On June 14, 1872 in Canada, the Government legalized unions.

Unlike the United States, which fought for its independence, Canada evolved peacefully. Through a treaty accepted by Queen Victoria, Canada became an independent self-governing federation in 1867.
