Mi Casa coming to Swakop

WALVIS BAY

Popular South African house group, MiCasa is coming to Namibia and will give a live show at the Swakopmund Sport Grounds on 23 August. The show dubbed “A concert in the park” has set the coast buzzing with excitement, as both young and old look forward to enjoying both old school hits and brand new hits by their favourite DJ`s. Artists like Gazza, Jericho, Lil D, Midnight Jazz and Stella will also perform alongside Mi Casa. A group of DJ’s such as David, Funky Freddy, MC CoolB, Lantis, Pello, Oros and Elizinho will spin their decks and do mixes to entertain their fans. It is the first event of this magnitude for the organisers of the show, Padez Distributors. The concert will start at 15:00 till late. “We are looking forward to the event; it is something to be excited about as it is our first big show. We expect 4 000 to 5 000 people.

Tickets are going fast with Mi Casa being a big fan favourite,” commented a Padez employee, Edwin Jacobs. Mi Casa is a house band based in Johannesburg, and consists of three members, Dr. Duda (producer) and pianist, J’Something (vocalist and guitarist), and Mo-T (trumpeter). The band was formed in early 2011. A few months later, they released an album titled MiCasa Music, which “went gold” and the group won several awards at the 18th Annual MTN South Africa Music Awards in 2012. The band received a lot of attention from the public in late 2011. Their hit single “These Streets” was taken from the album MiCasa Music, which showcased the unique urban jazz sound of the band. It was not long

before the band was on every major South African radio and music video chart at number 1, where it remained for weeks. The band went on to open for a number of major international acts, including The Layabouts, Reel People, Tortured Soul, and YMCMB’s Canadian Hip Hop recording artist Drake. Their second single from the album, Heavenly Sent, also made it to every South African radio and music video chart, and earned them South African Music Awards (SAMA) nominations for “Best Dance Album”, “Album Of The Year”, “Group Of The Year”, “Newcomer Of The Year”, and “Record Of The Year”. Mi Casa’s Newcomer of the Year nomination was met with controversy when some

people mentioned that the group’s producer, Dr. Duda, was clearly not a new artist. This single was remixed by Charles Webster, marking the first international recognition for the band. The band also released their third single, “La Vida”, which included a 3-D animated music video. This track was remixed by British house producer Atjazz. In 2014, the band performed at Ultra Music Festival in South Africa on the Soul Candi stage. The music industry is nothing new to Mi Casa, the band producer, Dr.Duda has been in the industry for over fifteen years, producing and being DJ along with the likes of DJ Fresh, Dj Mandla, Dj Mbuso and making hit tracks featuring talented vocalists such as RJ Ben-jamin, JSomething and Zodwa

amongst many others. J-Something is a talented songwriter, vocalist and mastered the guitar. This sensation began reading music at the tender age of eleven and this is when he first started playing the guitar. He has also worked with a lot of producers in the past including international artists. His zest for life and music breathes energy into the band. Mo-T is the band’s trumpeter; he oozes with talent and lives his life through music. This talented young man comes from a musically rooted family and this is where the music bug bit him. His father, who established and played the trumpet for Mango Groove, taught him to play the trumpet at a young age and he has never looked back since. Source: Wikipedia

NAMA 2014 compilation cd now on sale The much anticipated NAMA 2014 compilation album has finally arrived and is now available to the public. The double compilation cd has 36 songs, and it is indeed the first time that the NAMA organisers released such an album. NAMA Executive Chairman, Tim Ekandjo said he was excited about the project and thanked all the participating artists for their willingness and support. The double cd with 18 tracks each features all winning songs in the different categories at the 2014 NAMA’s event, as well as all artists who performed on the Friday and Saturday night awards even though they were not necessarily category winners. The idea was therefore to re-live the NAMA’s 2014,

and what an perfect way to do it by having your personal copy of the NAMA’s 2014 Compilation Album featuring only the very best music for 2013/4. A promotional launch of the NAMA 2014 Compilation Album will take place in Windhoek on Friday, 1st August 2014 in Post Street Mall, opposite the Tourist Information Centre Vendors Open Space Area from 12:00 to 14:00 with the entire featuring artists on the album and a live radio broadcast by NBC radio. The artists will come out in their numbers to not only market the album but also sign autographs on the albums for fans who would

like to buy a personalised and signed copy. They printed 5 000 copies and the idea is to sell every one of them in order to go platinum with this compilation album. The album will also be available for sale at selected MTC Mobile Homes countrywide and will go for a bargain price of only N$ 150 (VAT inclusive). This project will benefit the participating artists as the NAMA organisers will not be taking a single cent from sales proceeds, but will generously share all revenues equally amongst the participating artists after production cost of the compilation album has been paid from sales.

They will give each artist a guaranteed N$1 500 per song on the album and this is just for having agreed to be part of this project, and this is in addition to the sales revenues they will get. They have taken the risk by putting this together, and all they have to do is market the album on every available platform because this means money in their pockets. Ekandjo encouraged the Namibian public to get themselves a copy of the NAMA Compilation Album before it runs out of stock. According to him an amount of N$150 will by you 36 of the best tracks in Namibia, an album from different Namibian ar-

tists and genres ranging from Kwaito to Oviritje, Damara punch, Traditional, House music etc. Other promotional launches are also planned countrywide. Ekandjo also appealed to institutions like the Namibia Tourism Board and other like-minded institutions to buy the album in bulk and use this as a platform to market Namibian music and with Namibia hosting the CAF competition this year this could be one way of marketing the country’s music industry by ensuring that every player of the participating nations get their personal copy of the 2014 NAMA’s compilation album.
