NALLELY ALMAGUER
NALLELY I was born in Guanajuato Mexico. My interest in Architecture began as a child. Back home, my father was a welder and early on I was fascinated by the process through which material is given form to serve the needs of a comminity. The sense of community, duty, resilience and interest in material processes which shaped my initial interest in the architecture professioin have had formative role in my development as a designer. After completing an arduous techical training at East Los Angeles College, I transfered to UCLA to complete a B.A. In Architectural Studies. Currently I am looking for a position in firm where I futher develop my understading of building processes and hope to focus on construction administration in my next phase of professional development.

The wound the womb the scar the light. A terrifying sight which mutes reason and leaves only the thunderous sounds of a tormented sea hurling itself onto the dark shore with the determination of a hundredthousand boy soldiers. Fear becomes the guiding hand, the silent voice urging for oblivion desperately grasping at solid ground only to be pulled back unable to escape the force its own dark glistening vastness. A deafening roar of shadows spiraling and convulsing eyes shut, heart wrung and innocence’s last gasping breath suspended. Then enter love. In this project Single Surface Deformation (SSD) is utilized to explore the relationship between visual and textual language. Deformation, articualtion and gesture are employed in an exploration of trauma. Surface, contour and texture in image is combined with text to give form to the ineffible.

The interior houses a three part program: repair, storage and user services. This multimodal station facilitates the use of bicycles and public transportation allowing users to escape traffic and reconnect with the city.

Redesigning The American Dream This work explores the factors which influence the labor mobility of immigrants in the United States building industry. The goal of this research is to identify the state policies, institutional practices and individual factors of human capital which structure mobility and labor market outcomes for foreign-born workers in the U.S. building industry across occupational classifications. The analysis broadly examines the role of the state and civil society in structuring industrial relations across the three sectors of the building industry and focuses on the relationship between industrial relations, industry recruitment strategies, immigration, labor market allocation and human capital attributes of foreign-born workers. The information collected here also features up to date information on immigration policy, industry regulations, labor force characteristics and key industry indicators as well as a discussion of individual factors of human capital in relation to mobility and labor market outcomes of foreign-born workers. This study provides a framework upon which to build an understanding of the challenges and opportunities which confront foreign born workers in the U.S. building industry. The issues addressed herein have direct implications for workers employed in the construction industry and contain significant considerations for disciplines concerned with the effects of economic restructuring on international migration and labor practices in the built environment.

Unit Title: Urban Perspectives in Scenic Design Length of Unit (4 sessions):
Grade Level : 9-12 Art Form/Discipline: Visual Arts
This unit is guided by the belief that a study of the social forces that shape the built environment allows students to develop agency over the processes that shape the world in which we live. The guiding question in this unit is; “How does the built environment reflect and shape social values?” The social emotional learning focus here is social awareness. In this unit students will learn to use the elements of perspective projection, horizon line, vanishing point, parallel lines and picture plane to create realistic representations of space for scenic design. Students will be asked to think critically about the values communicated in drawing, design and film. In the first lesson, Character Development, students will be familiarized with plot, setting and character. Students will utilize color and pattern to convey character traits, personality, motives and emotions. In the second lesson, One-point Perspective, students will learn, horizon line, vanishing point, and orthogonal lines. They will use one-point perspective drawing to design a reversible set . In the third lesson, Model Making, students will learn to relate 2-dimensional images to 3-dimensional form by creating a scale model of a set based on a design drawing.
