I am an introvert. I didn’t talk much and didn’t know how to want to start a conversation. Most of my time is spent with myself. INTERNSHIP In these pages I would like to tell about my experience during the internship. Semester after semester passed, it was time for the semester for me to undergo practical training. Through my own experience of getting practical training at the end of semester 4, which is in August 2020, there is a lot of joy and sorrow. Because of what? Most places refuse for me to run a practical in their place due to the covid-19 problem that is plaguing our country. They pushed in a good way because of the lack of cost to take internship students. After several rejections, I finally got a call for me to undergo practical training at a Temerloh Craft Incubator Center located in Pahang. I was accepted to do practical training under the supervision of Mr. Mustaqim. He is a batik and craft entrepreneur at the Craft Incubator Center. Mr. Mustaqim bin Manaf i a Batik entrepreneur since December 2009 until noe. This company is one sole proprietorship owned by Mr. Mustaqim, alumni of the craft certificate program Batik at National Craft Institute,Rawang. The name Batik AQ was originally his name itself which is ‘Aqim’ and summarized as ‘AQ’.

BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY

Company Name: BATIK AQ ENTERPRISE No. Company registration: CA0155719-U Owner Name: MUHAMMAD MUSTAQIM BIN ABD. MANAF Ownership Status: Sole Proprietorship, 100% BUMIPUTRA Office Address: Pusat Inkubator Kraf, Temerloh, Lot 11, KAW. Perindustrian Songsang, 28000 Temerloh, Pahang. No. Mobile: 013-2942971

I did practical training for 6 months. Starting in August 2020 to early November 2020. First day of internship start with briefing session and introduce our self to En. Mustaqim. En. Mustaqim tell us about company background and everything about BATIK AQ. Next, we were taught to tracing fabric to make Pahang sarong. The design we trace is the Fraser Hill Garden design. In the afternoon, we were invited by En. Mustaqim to follow him went to Kuala Gandah to attend a quotation meeting to get a shop.

During the 6 months of doing practical training at Batik AQ, I learned many new things. Various activities and work given by En. Mustaqim to me and also friends for us to explore together.

This photo show that i am doing tie and dye. Various type of the design that can i make from this tie and dye technique. I am enjoying doing this during my practical training.

This we are asking to do natural dye on fabric. Among the ingredients to make natural dyes that we use are spinach, rosselle flowers, telang flowers, turmeric, and many other ingredients that we use. In addition, the fabric we use to make this natural dye is cotton fabric, chiffon. We also make on t-shirts, scarves and shawls. I am doing this natural dyes for the first time, so i dont have any experience for this technique but i alreadyy know about this natural dyes technique. This also fun to do because i can learn something new that i have never try it before.

Just like all things, using natural dyes has advantages and disadvantages. The right decision between choosing to use them for your business or not will depend on a lot of factors, most of which has to do with your needs and goals. Consider its impact on the environment. Natural dyes have lesser environmental impact compared to synthetic dyes.

BATIK CANTING

As a person who underwent practical training in a batik company, I was also asked to make batik. The initial design that En. Mustaqim asked us to make it based on his own design. Among the designs are Garden hill, Boh Plantation and Diamond beach. En. Mustaqim also taught us to make batik sarong with Pahang motifs.

The experience that I will never forget during the internship there was that I was able to meet openly with HRH Sri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri and her daughter Tengku Puteri Jihan. HRH Sri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri is a very friendly and kind person. He has a lot of knowledge about Batik and is willing to share it with us.

Next, this was the best part also during my internship. My friends and I followed En. Mustaqim makes sales at Pulau Keladi Weaving Center, Kuantan. The sales carnival was held to welcome new students who had just entered the weaving center. We six internship students were separated into two groups. A group was asked to take care of the sale of batik cloth that has been crocheted, scarves and tie and dye shirts as well as many more. While another group was asked to make a batik weaving demo and teach how to weave well. We were separated in two different places, for our sales were placed inside the hall together with other entrepreneurs and another group was outside the hall to make a demo of batik painting.

One fun thing for me was when we were asked to complete an order of 105 frame kits ordered by a teacher from Batu Kapor primary school, Mentakab, Pahang. Among the patterns he requested were flora and fauna as well as geometry. For starters, we first draw the patterns as requested by the teacher on cotton fabric. We have finished measuring according to the predetermined size of the kit frame. After finishing drawing, we started ‘canting’the pattern. This was a bit of a challenge because I lacked batik canting training, so it was a little difficult to get a good ‘cantingan’, but after a few tries and help from our friends and supervisors, I became a bit more adept at ‘mencanting’ and the canting results looked neater than before. After finishing the weaving, we started to wrap the kit frame with the brush and the color of the ramezol that was ready to be put into a small bottle of each color.

Last but not least, we visited East Cost Mall, Kuantan which has been held Malaysia Craft Promotion Day 2020. We have met the handicraft staff Kuantan branch and learn little by little about how to sell and demonstrate wood carving. In the picture referred to can be seen wood carvings with various shapes for sale. I am personally very impressed with the carvings that have been produced by these entrepreneurs.

THE MIND BLOWN

PHYSARU POLYCEPHALUM AS A TEXTILE MOTIF Physarum polycephalum, an acellular slime mould or myxomycete, is a protist with a broad geographic range and diverse cellular types. The term "acellular" refers to the plasmodial stage of the life cycle, which is characterised by a bright yellow macroscopic multinucleate coenocyte shaped in a network of interlaced tubes. This stage of the life cycle, along with the organism's preference for damp, shady environments, most likely led to the organism's original misclassification as a fungus. P. polycephalum is a model organism used in studies of motility, cellular differentiation, chemotaxis, cellular compatibility, and the cell cycle. Slime mold Physarum polycephalum is a single-celled organism that can transform into many different shapes and exhibits remarkable complexity in its behaviour and attitude. In one of its shapes, a single cell can grow to be very large-more than 30 cm across in a laboratory environment. Physarum polycephalum can be present in a variety of habitats in nature; however, the organism is most generally found in cool, humid environments. It may be used to explore a variety of topics, such as life cycles, mitosis, meiosis, sexual and asexual reproduction, cytoplasmic streaming, chemotaxis, basic navigation, quick decision-making, survival mechanisms in stressful conditions, cell formation, and developmental biology.
