DIMAPUR: Appealing for a stop on issue of tender permit for essential commodities to any individual or firm, Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) has “strongly insisted” on “open tendering system.” In a press note, president KVYO, Medozhatuo Rutsa, and general secretary, Kezhalelie Keretsü, stated that the present coupon issuing system of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) could control and curb the price escalation and bring competition to the market. However, KVYO pointed out that the system could potentially raise monopoly which would allow an individual and firm to get maximum profit leaving the public to suffer thereby affecting the economy as well. In this regard, KVYO requested the politicians not to recommend any such case of monopoly to KMC. Further, while extending full support to KMC, KVYO also stated that KMC should not in any case entertain the tender permit “because such practices would be boycotted at any cause.”
Joint council condemns custodial death
DIMAPUR: The joint council of seven colonies comprising Veterinary Colony, Niu Colony, United North Block-A, United North Block-B, Naga Colony, Sunrise Colony and Namgalong Colony of Burma Camp has “strongly” condemned the custodial death of late. Ramesh Kumar Yadav of Naga Colony. In a condemnation note, president Joint Council, Tokiye Kiba and general secretary, Thempu Kamei, informed that late. Ramesh Kumar Yadav was picked up on August 2 at around 9:30 p.m by the personnel of the East Police Station on suspicion of being an arms dealer and died while in police custody early August3. The Joint Council alleged “the brutality of the police torture resulted in the death and inhuman treatment meted out is totally unacceptable in any civilized society,
as the death cannot be a part of an investigation anymore.” “There is very possibility that the fact will be distorted and the erring personnel, be it the officer-in-charge or the investigating officer will go scot free,” it stated. The Joint Council also alleged that “the post mortem and the disposal of the dead body of the deceased was carried out in a hush hush manner and the colony authority were kept in the dark all throughout.” In this regard, the Joint Council requested the higher authorities to initiate stern action against the guilty policemen and give them exemplary punishment which would serve as deterrent to other rogue elements in the police force from doing any extra-judicial excesses. Meanwhile, the Joint Council also conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family in their moment of grief.

AR assists in recovering crashed car
DIMAPUR: A team of 9 Assam Rifles (AR) on receiving the information regarding road accident near Tseima Basa next to HQ 5 Sector AR on August 4 rushed to the accident site and assisted in the recovery of the vehicle. In a press note, Press Information Bureau (PIB) (Defence Wing), informed that the team of 9 AR, after more than two hours of effort, suc-
cessfully recovered the crashed vehicle which had reportedly rolled down 20 ft – 30 ft on NH-61. PIB further stated
that the accident probably occurred due to loss of control by the driver, however, no one was hurt in the accident.

In a press note, president ANPWDFWA, Inakhu Aye, general secretary, K. Atovi Awomi, and vice president, T. Yanger, stated that the decision was taken in a general on June 10 wherein the house deliberated on various important issues relating to legal fee collection. In this regard, the association has directed Tuli Ftr. Rd. SDO-I; Zunheboto Yemishe & Sukhalu Section and Satakha Sub-Division, PWD (R&B); Atoizu Division (R&B); Tobu SubDivision (R&B); Thonokyu Sub-Division (R&B); Phek, Housing Sub-Division and R.L.C to deduct legal fee during “this very salary disbursement” from each W/C employee of their respective Division or Sub-Division and submit the deducted amount to Central office bearers. Further, All Nagaland PWD Field Workers’ Association stated it was also ascertained that Rs. 52,000 was already taken by W/C Association Kohima president and secretary from NCC SDO-II Kohima “even though it was not their duty to collect the amount.”

would be ranked based on the reports by urban local bodies on the progress made towards construction of toilets, feedback of citizens and independent observation of sanitation levels. He also felicitated the RWAs, corporate donors to Swachh Bharat Mission, municipal workers for their exemplary contribution, TV actresses for their contribution towards generation of awareness about cleanliness. Earlier in Kohima city, deputy director from Urban Development, Tarachu Fithu gave two PowerPoint presentations on the concept of Swachh Survekshan-2017 and Landfill Bio-mining in Kumbakonam. The first round of Swachh Survekshan was held during the month of January 2016 rating 73 cities including Kohima city where Kohima city was ranked 69, he informed. Tarachu further informed that the second round of Swachh Survekshan would be held during January 2017 for which the kick-off workshop has been convened, which would be followed by a sensitization programme in different wards under Kohima city. In Dimapur, the programme was held at the NIC VC studio, DC office. Various representatives from Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), district administration, medical department etc attended the programme.
