DIMAPUR: Nagaland, along with other states in India on Sunday has launched second round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) for the year 2017 by administering the first two drops of polio to eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the state. Dimapur District Department of Health & Family Welfare conducted the second round of IPPI Polio which was launched by Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi, by administering the first two drops of polio. DPO RCH/UIP, Dr. Lanuakum, informed that during the first round of IPPI 2017, the coverage was 101 %. He attributed the success of Polio Sunday not only to the hard work of the health workers, but also due to the co-operation and active participation of the allied departments such as
the administration, social welfare department, Assam Rifles, para militaries, all the community leaders, NGOs, and volunteers who have been tirelessly contributing and supporting the medical department over the years. The brief launching function was attended by officials & staff under CMO office and staff under Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur. KOHIMA: During the launching programme, CMO Kohima, Dr. Avino Metha, stated that IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate polio in the country. The country would be free from polio with collective support from the citizen, she said. In Kohima district, as population 270063, target of 37808 children of five years and below were to avail polio drops. Two Mobile Polio teams on
IPPI would be visiting four transit points especially bus stations and taxi stands in the district for the next two days. NPRH: Nagaland Police Referral Hospital (NPRH) conducted 2nd phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization at NPRH Chumukedima. DIG training and border K Martin Pienyu graced the programme and administered the first polio drops. MOKOKCHUNG: Second round of IPPI of Mokokchung district was conducted at Imlong place wherein assistant commissioner M. Chaitanya Prasad as the chief guest administered the first polio drops. He encouraged the health workers to give the best and every effort for a free polio zone. DPO, RCH&UIP, Dr. Temsuyanger chaired the
programme and also gave a short introduction about IPPI. The programme started with invocation by Pastor Bendang Longkumer. It has been informed that informed that house to house visit for those missed out would be carried out on April 3 and 4. Altogether there are 209 polio booths. The programme was attended by Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar CMO, Red Cross, UNDP, Rotary Club, etc. TUENSANG: Tuensang District Health Society conducted the second round of pulse polio at Urban Sub-Centre of Chief Medical Officer. The first two drops was administered by CMO Tuensang, Dr. T. Pangjung Sangtam in the presence of DPO, RCH & UIP, Dr. Temsu Longchar and staff. The invocation was said by nursing sister in-
charge, S Alemla. The department mobilised 1,250 vaccinators, 46 supervisors in all the eight blocks of the district to cover over 27,552 estimated children below 5 years. There are 267 polio booths and 534 house to house teams. WOKHA: Second round of IPPI was conducted at Wokha District wherein external observer deputy director, Health & Family We l f a r e Ko h i m a , D r. Khriesi Sachu, visited the district and monitored the urban polio booths. Altogether 197 polio booths, 5 transit teams, 1 mobile team were set up to ensure that all 0-5 year children population receives polio drops in the district. Monitoring and supervision were carried out in all the booths by the supervisors and house to house visit to be conducted on April 3-4 both at the urban and rural areas.

DLSAs organise training for PL, PLVs in Kiphire, Mon PBCK ‘family evangelistic camp’ ends
DLSA Kiphire members and trainees after training for PL and PLVs. DIMAPUR: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kiphire and Mon in collaboration with Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organised training for Panel Lawyers (PL) and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) respectively. Kiphire DLSA conducted the orientation training programme on March 30, at DC conference hall, Kiphire with the concept to equip the PL and PLVs with the basic knowledge of the laws and ideas about the relevant legislations and welfare scheme for assisting the legal aid seeker. The training stressed more on practical aspect for securing and achieving the greater goal of access of justice for all. Addressing the introductory speech, Sessions Judge & Chairman of Kiphire DLSA, Mayang Lima, stated that legal aid clinic could not be open, till
date, in the Kiphire district “because of reasons beyond control” but appreciated the efforts put up by the PLVs of Kiphire district. He said the aims of legal services was to secure access to justice for all and therefore PLVs should be trained with basic laws by participating in such orientation training so that they could assist and guide the common man with the basic constitutional guaranteed and assurance enshrined in the Constitution of India. Mayang further stated that lawyers cannot move around and therefore PLVs serve as a bridge to fill the gap between the grassroot level and legal institution. He asked PLVs to work as network throughout the 11 districts front office t o p r ov i d e f r e e l e g a l assistance to the concerned beneficiaries or legal aid seeker. Mayang requested the PLVs to live a life of dignity
so that the beneficiaries could approached them with confident in order to confide their problem. He pointed out that PLVs should be well informed and aware about the basic laws and schemes so that they could serve efficiently. Mayang further urged the PLVs to participate actively during training session and apprised the trainees about the next training session which would cover the challenges faced by the PLVs during their services and legal issues that were not clear to them. In his address, SDO Kiphire, Benjamin, said although PLVs may not have legal background, they should know the basic legal knowledge and equip themselves through such training so that they could assist the common people seeking their assistance in a competent manner. He also motivated the PLVs to work hard and to bring laurel to their district by working sincerely and serving the people of Mon district so that deserving beneficiaries get access to justice. to maximize production per unit area. He also urged the farmer to adopt integrated farming system as an alternate means to sustain livelihood. Scientist (Fisheries), Jyotish Barman gave an over view on possibility of adopting different fish farming practices suitable for Nagaland. He stressed on following scientific system of production depending on
the topography and climatic condition of the locality. Courses related to polyculture, cage and p e n c u l t u r e, c o m m o n carp breeding, fish health management, integrated fish farming were covered during the three days course.
