How did you get your start in the filter industry?

At the start of my filtration journey, I was hired on at Filtration Group as a product engineer immediately out of college and have happily never left the field.
Did you have a business mentor and if so, who is/was it?
Do you have any words of wisdom for up and coming filter professionals?
Michael Corbat is responsible for coordinating the engineering and product development for Rensa and its portfolio companies.
Michael has over 20 years of extensive experience in filtration media, filter development and filter test methodology between Filtration Group, Custom Filter and Rensa Filtration.
Michael has also had a deep involvement in the filtration community including previously serving as chair of the ASHRAE 52.2 committee.
Michael is the 2023 incoming President of NAFA and serves on the NAFA Education and Training, Marketing & Membership and Technical & Certification committees.
I was lucky enough to have had two. Phil Winters who hired me to my first job and Larry Ost the former owner of Filtration Group. Both taught me to love the field we work in and that if you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.
What’s the best piece of business advice anyone ever gave you?
Do the right thing, even when its hard. Long term this will build you and your company’s reputation as the right people to work with.
Stay curious. This is a slogan I picked up at The Henry Ford Museum and found it appropriate in so many ways. It will mean different things to different people, but for me personally I love to learn and will never rest on what I learned yesterday as that might lead me to discover something new tomorrow.
How has your company benefited from NAFA membership. Rensa Filtration is a relatively new entry to the air filtration space. NAFA is a centralized forum of industry professionals. NAFA, in particular created a significant brand awareness.
What do you think is the biggest challenge the air filtration industry currently faces?
Loss of momentum. It would be easy to argue supply chain or employee retention, but those will eventually work themselves out. COVID-19 brought a focus and energy to the importance of indoor air quality and if that is lost, it may never be regained.
Rensa Filtration is a family of companies dedicated to air filtration. By investing in innovation and the people that drive it, Rensa manufactures best-in-class solutions that keep environments safe and industries thriving.
The Company was founded in 2017 by industry veteran Brandon Ost and private investment partners. For more information, visit: www.rensafiltration.com.
