Site Plan Project 01: Boiling Mad focuses on re- purposing the old Lancashire Boiler located at London Metropolitan University. Bringing it back to life with a new function. The concept for this project will educate and promote zero waste living, by designing the boiler into a mobile Zero Waste market which is also known as Go Zero. The market will be located at the University and varies of other locations outside the campus.
Go Zero will encourage customers to bring in their own reusable containers and bags and sell dry organic food and sustainable washing up liquids, cleaner and other products such as bamboo cutlery or organic cloth. This will help reduce the use of unnecessary plastic packaging. Even though the boiler will be given a new function it will still have the same industrial aesthetic, as the original copper shell and structure will be kept in place. This will keep the memory of the boiler going.
Most of the dispensers and shelves will be made by re using the original pipes, bolts and taps from the Boiler, they will be washed thoroughly to prevent any contamination. For extra precaution the pipes will have a case inside to prevent the liquids or dry foods from touching the original pipes and causing any contamination.
For this project the aim is to re-design the Boiler House to our chosen idea, the Boiler House will link back to Project 01: Go Zero. I want to expand the idea of sustainable living by creating a space that will hold exhibitions and workshops which will educate others about the environment and how to live sustainably.
The overall aesthetic of the space will link back to the original state of the Boiler House, as I will keep certain features and colours through out the concept. For example using copper, keeping the stripped back brick wall and some of the metal works. The Boiler House will be open to both the university and to the public during certain days.

Concept Collage Concept collage and precedents mainly focusing on the different types of exhibitions and workshops that could be incorporated into the space and how. Also exploring the idea of using platforms as the Boiler House has a good volume and already has mezzanine in place, so I want to make use out of that and expand it.

Concept Development Exploring possible ideas through plans, 3D drawings and creating models. As you can see through my development my ideas mainly focuses on creating platforms at different heights and connecting them together. I wanted the space to be interactive and exciting for others to use.
