Interiors Architecture Prof. G.Postiglione

In this course, we were entered to a competition called The MeLa Project in Barcelona. It was an open call for proposals for the redefinition of the Lobby of MACBA Study Center. The floor above was used as an archive and a library of the Museo De Arte Contemporáneo De Barcelona. The concept of this project, therefore, was to ‘Show the backstage’. The meaning of this concept was to bring out and use the materials already present in the archive and library to exhibit in public, to show them the true character of the MACBA Study Center.

11

Interiors Architecture Prof. G.Postiglione

The idea of the interior was to completely transform it into a flexible space with different kinds of easy-assembled and reusable furniture units.

12

Some panels are also attached to the wall and can be pulled out to have the function of tables and chairs. When they are no longer needed, they are easily reassembled and put away or even disposed if they are not usable anymore.

13

Interiors Architecture Prof. G.Postiglione

Another example of an exhibition arrangement with cardboard panels attached to the ceiling used for exhibiting, projecting and also used as tables. Since the budget was very low, we proposed the use of cardboard as the main material for the making of all furniture elements, which turned out to be very effective and appreciated by the staff of MACBA. The material was chosen because it is very easy to assemble, it is simple, low cost, disposable, versatile and flexible. Some panels are also attached to the wall and can be pulled out to have the function of tables and chairs.

15

Interiors Architecture Prof. G.Postiglione

In order to improve the square outside and to have some use of the dull/empty faรงade, we came up with an idea to use this cardboard furniture in the square as seats for the public and to use the faรงade as a big panel for projections as an attraction for the people that pass by in order to invite them to come inside and see the materials that the Study Center offers. The Lobby would also be used as a workshop area where people would have the chance to make this furniture and to keep it after the exhibition.

Architecture and Building Technology

The smallest building is for the elderly, where the ground floor contains a massage center and a common space. The rest of the floors are for residential use. The middle building is for young people (workers and students) where the ground floor contains a study room, gym and presentation room. The biggest building is for families, with larger apartments and offices and shops on the ground floor. Each floor has a balcony running along all the apartments that has a curtain wall and wooden sliding panels as a shading system.

18

19

Architecture and Building Technology Prof. I.Paoletti E.Magarotto

The elements that were chosen to work on were the green roof, the curtain wall and the foundation of the building. The structure was made of concrete and the building was made up of square modules with columns that would support the whole structure. All buildings have on one side a terrace roof as a common space, and on the other side a green roof for sustainable needs and functions.

This project is located at the Quartiere Feltre, near Parco Lambro in Milano. This is a block of residential units built in the 1950’s by Luciano Baldessari, Giancarlo De Carlo, Ignazio Gardella and Angelo Mangiarotti. The area of our project is ‘The Hill’ in the South. The main concept was to preserve all the current nature and to somehow integrate our building with the natural landscape that surrounds it. This was done by shaping the building in an organic way, that follows the curves and the topography of the hill and by using transparent materials to give a meaning to the ‘forest of trees’ that are being preserved.

23

Architectural Design Studio 3 Prof. I.Cortesi H.Hoelzl

Considering that this is a flexible exhibition space, the building is made of 2 levels, the ground floor and the first floor which is situated on the hill that already exists. The main element is the ramp that is also used for exhibiting on either sides. This geometry is repeated throughout the project, with paths, vegetation and outside furniture.

24

The circulation through the whole area is following a very organic path including a path of water, and a system which uses the collected water from the building to supply to the public square in the shape of a fountain and to the vegatation in the shape of an irrigation system. There is also a play of levels between the hill and the square which is below ground level.

25

Architectural Design Studio 3 Prof. I.Cortesi H.Hoelzl

The concept was also to enhance the importance of the hill by duplicating the shape of the elipse and creating an open square conncected by the two centers of these geometries. Images show the day and night view of the building and how it reacts with its surrounding. It shows the selection of materials used on all the faรงades including the large glass faรงade on the North and South. The inclinations of the roof and the skylights are also visible.

This project is located in Parma in the old part of the city called Oltretorrente. After the analysis on site, we discovered that the 3 courtyards were very different from one another. One was completely closed and private, one was semi-private and the third one was semi-public. This area was lacking public activities and was intended to become more open to the public. The heART court, the PARK court and the AGRI court. All of them were connected with one another by a pathway. Each court has a central space similar in shape. The heART court was the heart of the three and it has an artistic function with an auditorium/stage in the middle, a lawn and a boundary of trees separating it from the buildings. Different kind of vegatation is used such as trees, shrubs and smaller flowers. The PARK court has the function of a park/forest which is situated in the very center of it. It is dense with tall trees and water canals and benches surrounding these islands. The AGRI court functions as an urban orchard where residents all have their own plot of land for growing vegetables and fruits.

Then we focused our attention to the building heights because they affect the space whithin the courts. The heights were various and this created a particular atmosphere so we wanted to use this in our concept. We discovered that inside the courts the space is divided into smaller units and even though it is supposed to be collective space used by the residents. We used the current positions and lines of buildings to create the axis and to arrange the activities according to this factor. The repeatition of colors of the façades was also used and different activities were assigned to each court.

Some details were developed of the urban furniture that we have designed for the three different courts. For the heART court we have designed an element used for sitting with its overhanging structure containing light fixtures. In the PARK court, there was a unique element that separated the ‘forest’ from the lawn, which was used for the water canal, pathway and a bench also with light fixtures. In the AGRI court, we designed elements such as the orchards of different levels, pathways, storage for the tools for orchards and the water canals used for watering the plants.

I have worked for two months at Axis Design Maior where I have been working on one stand of Aeroviaggi (already existing) for the Fiera di Milano. The main programs I have worked in are 3ds Max and Photoshop. The subjects that I have covered are modeling, materials, mapping, lighting, cameras, animations and rendering. Here are two projects, one of a stand for the travelling agency and one of an appartment.

Internship Enformbiro Design Studio Arch. M.Kordic

During my internship at ENFORMBIRO Design Studio with Arch. Milena Kordic and Arch. Verica Medja, I was asked to develop a project of the interior design for a Cafe/Club Futura that would be situated in Belgrade in a Shopping Mall. The project is eco friendly and includes the use of sustainable materials and natural elements. The plans and sections show the distribution of space inside and all its elements. The images show us the detail of the bar and a play area for kids. The seating elements and tables are also shown in detail with a clear use of sustainable materials and plants. We can also see the ceiling in detail.

The main element is the circle which is an open space and contains a lot of trees and plants and the use of natural materials such as wood. It inculdes seating elements and furniture developed during the internship.

The project is located in Corso XXII Marzo in Milan and was done during a workshop of two weeks. Instead of looking at other projects as references, we decided to have as a reference, a living organism. This organism is an elephant. The main elements of the building are its towers (legs), roof platform (back) and the ground (botanical gardens). The function of the buildings is a youth hostel and on each ground floor these is a common space such as a library, study room and a common kitchen. The platform is open to the public and has a great view over the city of Milan. The location of the project is in the middle of the airport of Linate and the center of Milan.

Master Thesis Project Prof. Elisa Cattaneo Collaboration with student Nina Jakic

For my Master Thesis project, in collaboration with my colleague Nina Jakic, we have developed a project on an island situated in Montenegro, called Mamula. It is a former prison and now an abandonned fortress. The goal was to revive all of the existing, abandonned fortresses of Montenegro by designing an architectural/landscape project and a strategy that could be applied to the other forts. It funcions as a machine, consisting of different elements that have different functions such as Museum, Exhibition Center and Landscape rooms.
