We are pleased to distribute the first volume of the Philly Files, a periodic newsletter intended to provide members with information on what’s happening in Philadelphia during NACUA’s 53rd Annual Conference, which will be held June 19-22 at the Marriott Downtown.

Philadelphia Culture & Things to Do Its name meaning the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia was essential to the formative years of the United States. Philadelphia served as the permanent home to historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin and the financiers of the American Revolution.


Formerly the nation’s capital, Philadelphia’s historic district includes the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The City of Brotherly Love offers many exciting things to do including: 

Things You May Not Know About Philadelphia 

There are five original open-space parks planned by William Penn: Franklin Square, Rittenhouse Square, Logan Circle, Washington Square, and Centre Square (now the site of City Hall at the intersection of Broad and Market Streets).

Philadelphia is currently ranked as the fifth most walkable city in the U.S. by Walk Score.

Benjamin Franklin Highway, a mile-long boulevard that diagonally cuts through the grid plan of Philadelphia, is modeled after the Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is the largest Catholic church in Pennsylvania.

The Rodin Museum in Philadelphia is the largest collection of the French sculptor’s work outside of Paris.

Philadelphia is home to 25 Carnegie libraries.
