First I would like to thank all our members who came along to see us on the NABAS stand at the Birmingham Spring Fair, with the many new designs of foil balloons, balloon printing machines and shapes, it appears you all enjoyed the visit, also on the stand we signed up 16 new members with another 9 asking to have the office call them. Secondly for those of you who managed to attend the AGM this year, it appears from the positive feedback from so many of you that everyone had a very enjoyable day. Those of you who did attend would have seen the pre-launch of the IBA Frame Table Centre pieces which we hope to launch at the beginning of June. By the end of May we will have in place the NABAS Master Balloon Artist (NMBA) accreditation for those of you who want to advance your abilities in your chosen careers, it will give you many benefits including discounted membership in recognition of your achievements! So many exciting new things happening within your Association and to top it all, we are bringing back the NABAS Party Show Weekend with many seminars (not just balloon ones) a hands on decor build-up for the Saturday Night Party, with more seminars on the Sunday. We have been asked by a number of members if we would bring Competitions back into the fray. This is something we were also discussing, so, it looks to be a very exciting year ahead for those of us in this fun filled industry. If any member would like to get more involved in the running of this great association of ours, there are two seats vacant on the committee for Retailer/Decorators and two seats available for Wholesale/Manufacturers, please give the NABAS Office a call to register your interest.

AGM & Demonstration Day 2014 The NABAS AGM & Demo Day was held on 20th February 2014, it was great to see so many of our members present. The format of the day was popular, with demonstrations either side of the AGM. The demonstration were delivered by the following:

Pauline Vooght, Easy Peezy Parties, created this wonderful Alice in wonderland Tree with Alice going down the rabbit hole.
Lynn Boyes of Linley Enterprises recently had a call from a member of staff from the famous Fat Duck restaurant in Bray. Lynn was asked for something suitable for a customer's little boy who wasn't well and needed cheering up. Lynn recalled having seen a bright giraffe design used to promote the new Qualatex Quick Link latex balloons and easily found the instructions online. Lynn changed the design slightly by using some raisin twists to incorporate polka dot balloons to match the foil head. . Above is an image of the jolly giraffe which Lynn delivered to young Harley on a very windy wet day! One delighted customer!

NABAS Member Becky Kitter of Balloonatic.biz and her balloons are going to be featured in the new series of “Grandpa in my Pocket” on CBEEBIES. She will be playing a crazy balloon lady called Mrs Pufferbang. Northstar at Spring Fair International 2014 This was only Northstar's second appearance at this key event but with even more visitors to our stand than last year, it proved to be tremendously successful at all levels. It was not only the quantity of visitors that impressed but the quality and diversity was equally important and we would like to to say a very big "Thank You" to all those who came on to our stand during the show - especially NABAS members. With a doubling in size of our range for 2014, the Spring Fair was an ideal opportunity for existing and new customers alike to see that the Northstar line now extends way beyond our industry leading Shapes, Numbers and Letters. Overall the range was extremely well received but in the "new for 2014" category, show highlights were: 3D Spheres and Cubes - including "Milestone Ages" from 16 to 100 • Ampersand (&) sign - the missing link! • Wedding range - including the on trend Mr and Mr plus Mrs and Mrs designs! • Pirate - Pirate Octopus and Pirate Sphere. • Sea Life range - especially Jellyfish and Seahorse. • Princess range - Daphne Dragon and Princess Sphere. • Baby range - including Baby Shower and Its a Girl/Boy Baby Buggy designs. • Much extended 18" Message range.
Overall the Spring Fair and its aftermath has continued to help fuel Northstar's rapid growth in the UK and the rest of Europe together with cementing its position as a leading player in the Foil Balloon industry worldwide.
