Bat-box

Checklist: Handful of nails, hammer, saw, wood sized as above, rainproof piece of material. Dimensions: You can play with the dimensions a bit, but E must be 1,5 cm less thick than the beams B, C and D. Dimensions rainproof piece of material: 7cm by 25 cm Hanging the box: - At least 2,5 meters high - Hung at the south side in the sun - Sufficient room for approach-route of the bats (3 meters)

Rough up plank F on 1 side by hacking it with a chisel. You can also use a screwdriver or the sharp side of a hammer. This is what the bats will be hanging from. Start by installing beam B and E on shelve A. Than install beam C and D on plank A.

Turn the box you now made around and place it (with the E side down) on plank F. there must be about 5 cm left above the box and 15 cm below the box.

Attach plank G at the bottom of plank F. On this little shelf you will find droppings when bats have moved into the box. The last step is to place he piece of rainproof material on top of the box so the bats will have a nice dry home. The box can be finished off with Environmentally friendly pickle, but this isn’t a must.
