The Wokingham Fireworks Extravaganza lit up the town with a spectacular torchlight procession led by St Sebastian’s Band, beginning its journey at Wokingham Town Hall and culminating at the enchanting Cantley Field. Awaiting attendees at Cantley Field were thrilling fairground attractions and an array of food and beverage vendors.

On the evening of November 4th, a mesmerising procession of torches set off from Wokingham Town Hall, expertly guided by St Sebastian Band. A multitude of participants, armed with torch lights and real flame torches, gathered in the town center, transforming Wokingham’s streets into a breathtaking sea of flickering flames.

This captivating torchlight procession marked the highly anticipated Fireworks Extravaganza, casting a warm, radiant spectacle against the night sky as it gracefully made its way to the scenic Cantley Park.

Steeped in history and tradition, this luminous procession gracefully weaved through the town, setting the stage for an extraordinary evening. Onlookers described the scene as nothing short of “amazing,” underscoring the event’s significance in celebrating Wokingham’s rich heritage and fostering community spirit.

The festivities continued at Cantley Field, where an impressive pyrotechnic firework display, synchronised to music, illuminated the sky. Attendees also enjoyed a delightful fairground and a variety of refreshment stalls. This magnificent event was made possible through the collaboration between Wokingham Fireworks and Wokingham Lions Club.

Wokingham Aerial Photography: A local drone service with a charitable focus pressed their heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We extend our sincere thanks to Wokingham Fireworks and Wokingham Lions Club for inviting us once again this year. It’s always an incredible experience to witness the torch lights and entertain the enthusiastic crowds on their way to Cantley House Park.” Notable attendees, including the Mayor and other dignitaries, inaugurated the event and participated in the procession.

David Gold, Chair of the Wokingham Fireworks Charity, emphasized that despite economic challenges, ticket prices remained affordable. This year’s event was dedicated to supporting noteworthy charities, including First Days Children’s Charity, Wokingham In Need, Daisy’s Dream, Sue Ryder, and Life Education Wessex & Thames Valley.

In a heartfelt message on Facebook, the organizers extended their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended and supported Wokingham Fireworks 2023. They acknowledged the tireless efforts required to accommodate the approximately 10,000 attend- ees and expressed gratitude to various groups and sponsors, including St Sebastian Wokingham Band, Thames Valley Police, Wokingham District Scouts, Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham Town Council, Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue, MC Production Group, Wokingham Theatre, VolkerWessels UK, Wokingham Society, Prospect Estate Agents, and Alexandra Grange Care Home. Special recognition was given to the Deputy Mayor of Wokingham, Cllr Adrian Mather, the Mayor of Wokingham Town Council, Cllr Sally Gurney, and the children’s competition winner, Alfie, for leading the torchlit parade.

Wokingham Fireworks comprises four local service groups: Rotary Club of Wokingham, Easthampstead Rotary Club, Wokingham Lions Club, and Windsor Forest Unicorn Club. These dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to raise funds for local charities, and the total funds raised from this year’s event will be announced in the coming months.

Excitement is already building for next year’s event, scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.
