Local in-home aged care provider, RangeCare, has introduced a new Virtual Reality program that allows their clients to experience adventures in life they never thought were possible.

With the use of a Virtual Reality headset, RangeCare’s trained facilitators can virtually guide clients through a wide range of activities. “Participants of the program have experienced such things as exploring international museums, attending live concerts, deep diving in the ocean, and visiting the cities and hometowns they grew up in or used to travel to,” said Business Development Manager, Jess Garey.

“Many of our clients are geographically isolated and the likelihood of them travelling abroad is low. Our Virtual reality program is a chance for our clients to travel remotely and experience new scenery,” continued Jess.

For some, participating in the program has triggered her recollection of many happy memories. Ninety-year-old RangeCare client Ludmilla has been using the virtual reality program to visit her hometown in Serbia.

“When I saw the house that I lived in Serbia, for two weeks I felt I was back McKenzie Aged Care Group was founded by a family who saw a need to create an environment that truly felt like a family home.

For over 20 years, the creation and growth of 17 homes, that have become warm and welcoming communities, has been based on the foundations of family values. Like the core of any strong family – to put family first – McKenzie has always proudly stated that, “we put people first”.

The McKenzie family vision – to provide aged care homes that they would be proud to live in - started when sisters Sally and Mary-Ann McKenzie opened their first home in 2001, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Windsor.

Their vision continues today with homes around Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, where the resident’s needs remain the focus at every stage. Mary-Ann McKenzie, Director, said

“In a world where we are all impacted by the effects of COVID-19 and continually experiencing periods of isolation, lockdowns and separation from our loved ones, the family unit has never been more important. When families entrust their loved ones into our care, they will feel happy knowing that we are

JUDY BLOOMS IN NEW LIFESTYLE AT NIRIMBA

After several attempts at retirement, Judy White finally took the plunge and finished her last day working in a medical practice in Gladstone (QLD).

“They kept asking me back and I found it hard to say no,” she said.

Of course, this time it worked as she made the decision to move south, closer to two of her children who live in Brisbane.

“I’ve always wanted to move to the Sunny Coast and when I retired last year, I thought it was time to start looking,” she laughed.

“And obviously I can’t work on reception from here.”

Judy is one of the first homeowners to move into Stockland’s Halcyon Nirimba, which is part of the masterplanned community of Aura near Caloundra (QLD).

“There were a few married couples who moved in before me, but the lady next door is on her own and we have become really good friends,” she said.

Judy said has become involved in lots of activities such as craft, movie groups and community drinks but is excited about the facilities opening next year.

“Everyone is joining in really well and when The Clubhouse opens, I’m sure that will take off.”

“I love the beach and walking down to Caloundra, it’s been amazing.

I hope I get myself a bike soon so I can take advantage of all the bike tracks around here.”

Judy said her life had changed since making the move.

“I used to be more of a shy person, but now I seem to have really come out of my shell,’ she said.

“I’m really enjoying the company; everyone has just been great.”
