A RACY, LACY SHOW UNESCO’S INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY - CELEBRATING THE GREAT AMERICAN AND BRAZILIAN SONGBOOKS

THE Caloundra Arts Centre presents “A Creation of Space and be dazzled by LACE – A Space Odyssey. The show features Plastic Lace by Mary Barron, ‘Hidden Women’ exhibit by Interlace, Lace Art by Qld Lace Guild, a display by Qld Tatters, Works of Art by CACA artists and artisans and Art knits by designer Ruth Remmele. While there you can enjoy music by the CACAphonics and coffee is available.

The show is on at Easter between April 15 -18, Caloundra Arts Centre, 5 North St, Caloundra between 10am to 3pm. Entry is a gold coin donation. THE Sunshine Coast Concert Band presents AUTUMN MELODIES on Saturday, April 9 at 2.30pm in the Kawana Community Hall, Nanyima Street, Buddina. This will be an afternoon of great entertainment under the baton of music director Noel Bowden.

The Sunshine Coast Concert Band (formerly Caloundra City Concert Band) is a voluntary community band that has been performing since 1996.

Tickets $20 available at the door and afternoon tea and raffle prizes will be offered.

& other Rotary Projects THE Jazz & Blues Collective presents ‘ A Global Presentation Downunder’ with Queensland’s award-winning jazz singer and educator, Ingrid James, performs with a stellar line-up - John Reeves (piano), Andrew Shaw (bass), Paul Hudson (drums) and Martha Baartz (saxes/flute), paying homage to some of the popular songs between the 1920’s and 60’s in the Great American Songbook. This was the Golden Age of Jazz. Since then, great songwriters have expanded this canon of influential work, including Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Henry Mancini, along with the many collaborations between jazz legends and Brazilian artists, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Nascimento, etc., The songs have stood the test of time both in the 20th and 21st centuries. And today, we will celebrate world-class arrangements of these classic songs.

Abstract #1 by Almeta Lennon The Coolum Art Collective presents its annual Easter Art Exhibition for 2022. Featured will be art and craft works from some of the Sunshine Coast’s leading artists and artisans, offering a diverse range of art. Over 200 original artworks are offered for sale, comprising both traditional and current styles

De is an expressive artist who uses bold mark-making and layering to build rich, sumptuous surfaces and the Coolum Art Collective is delighted to have her. Entry is free, with the opportunity to purchase quality artwork and artisan items. Visitors also have the opportunity to vote for favourite artist in the “People’s Choice award”.

Michael Pye, Master Grower COME and experience the most beautiful orchids grown on the Sunshine Coast. The members of the club organising the event, the Sunshine Coast Orchid Society Caloundra Inc have worked tirelessly to ensure their most precious blooms will be ready in April. This year, there will be orchids on display from eight Orchid Societies spanning from Gympie to Bribie Island. There will be raffles, sales of orchids, foliage and flowering plants and orchid growing equipment; Lunch, Morning & Afternoon Teas will be available as well. Experts will be on hand to answer your questions regarding growing orchids. This is your chance to take home a beautiful plant and memories.

The show is at The Caloundra Uniting Church Hall, Cnr Queen & Ulm Streets, Caloundra (ample parking available/wheelchair accessibility), on Friday April 8 9:00am-4:00pm, Saturday April 9- 9:00am-2:00pm. Entry is $3 adults, $2 for groups, children free.

WALK AROUND AND LEARN ABOUT LOCAL HISTORY

THE Caloundra Family History and Research Group are conducting history walking tours of Bulcock Street, Caloundra on April 9 and 23 and May 7 and 21 from 10.00am for a hour.

These walks are part of Council’s Australian Heritage Festival which is running from April 1 to May 31. They were first started as part of the Open Day celebrations in October 2021.

Due to continued interest, the group has decided to run on a more regular basis. The tours are free but if you would like to make a donation to our group, we would be grateful.

This not for profit community association is dedicated to the practice and promotion of art and craft. Mixed Media is just one of 13 artisan groups at the Craft Cottage. Mixed Media refers to artwork where more than one medium is used. This group embraces pushing the boundaries from traditional art to experimenting in any medium. Members may work with one medium or several on the one piece. You will find use of watercolour, acrylic, oil, printmaking or collage, pencils, charcoal, pastels.

There will be experimental pieces and decorative pieces. Whether you want bold, or soft, abstract or realism, you will find something you love. The exhibition includes canvases, prints, works on paper - all created by imaginative artists exploring and connecting art to people. The group are both established and emerging artists.
