Choose the right flooring with confidence with these ideas and tricks.

Carpet Court stylist Heather Nette King off ers these style tips: MAKE FLOORING THE HERO: Draw the eye to a striking herringbone, chevron or terrazzo-look floor by keeping the rest of the scheme simple. CONSIDER INNOVATIVE HYBRID FLOORING: Like the look of terrazzo, stone or concrete, but want something easy to install and cost-eff ective? Hybrid flooring combines the best attributes of laminate and vinyl and gives you the look of luxe natural materials for less. USE FLOORING TO CREATE ZONES IN AN OPEN-PLAN ROOM: Use carpet or a rug in relaxing spots, such as the living area, and hardworking timber or hybrid tiles in busier ones such as the kitchen and dining area. GO PLUSH FOR CHILL-OUT OR SLEEP ZONES: Carpet feels soft , warm and luxurious underfoot, making it a great option for bedrooms and living rooms. REALISE THE FULL POTENTIAL: An undressed window is like an outfit without shoes – window treatments complete and consolidate a room. Ensure the treatments – whether in a complementary or contrasting colour – have the same warm or cool undertones as the carpet, paint or other decorative elements for a cohesive look.

TIP When it comes to choosing floor tiles in the bathroom, try using tiles of the same size and colour on the wall and floor. This will help to create a more spacious feel.

did you know? If you or a family member suff ers from allergies, no doubt you know there is conflicting advice about whether you should install carpet or go for hard flooring in the home. Allergies are oft en caused by dust mites, which love warm, humid environments and thrive in carpet, bedding and soft furnishings. But a growing number of researchers are suggesting that carpet actually stops the mites from becoming airborne, and therefore carpet might actually be better for allergy suff erers. As more research is done, watch this space.
