WHAT’S ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 12
SUNSHINE COAST BAND PRIMED FOR A BIG YEAR Sunshine Coast indie-rock band Fragile Animals is making an impact around Australia with its impressive debut EP, Light That Fades. Just one year into after forming, the three-piece group – Noosa’s Daniel Parkinson (guitar) and Victoria Jenkins (vocals/bass) and Nambour’s Kyle Shipton (drums) – has already toured interstate and had songs played on national broadcaster Triple J. Fragile Animals’ debut single Signals was shortlisted for the esteemed Vanda & Young Songwriting award, with follow-up singles Home and Light That Fades receiving extensive airplay around Australia. “You never know how your music is going to be perceived and so far the feedback has been positive,” Mr Parkinson says. “And being played on Triple J was a bit surreal, to be honest. I still can’t believe that all happened.” Fragile Animals recently completed its first tour of Sydney and Melbourne. Fragile Animals will play a headline show at Sol Bar in Maroochydore on January 13 at 8pm to launch the new single Smaller Circles, before recording new music. Entry is free.

The Different Sides exhibition at Wan’din’in Arts Space Eumundi will show artworks in a variety of styles and mediums by Alan Pirie. Mr Pirie’s high level of skill and expertise is displayed in his realistic depictions of wildlife. These beautifully executed drawings have a strength that demands them to be studied for their lifelike qualities. Mr Pirie was recently a finalist in the Noosa Regional Gallery’s 2017 Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize and his many talents can also be seen in the sharp contrast of his oil paintings, which are created in a surrealist style using a very strong palette. Different Sides is on at Wan’din’in Arts Space at 73 Memorial Drive, Eumundi from January 12 to February 11. A Meet the Artist morning tea is on January 19 from 10.30am and Mr Pirie will run a drawing fundamentals workshop on February 2 from 10am to 1pm. For more information, email info@discovereumundi.com.
