Imaginary Love

Choreography Lauren Edson, Premiere Date August 8, 2013. Review - Elaine Schmidt, Journal Sentential Online “Edson created a constantly shifting feel of romance and tension. Dancers pulled together with tender, intimate movements and gestures, only to strain against each other and push each other away. Her vocabulary of movement ranged from stylized, mechanical bits to starkly lighted poses and fluid, connected couples’ work.” Full work 20 minutes, can be arranged to 10 or 15 min. Available for touring Fall 2013.

Swan Lake

Choreography Sergei Vanaev, Performed At Jacob’s Pillow August 16, 2013. Dramatic. Striking. Awe-Inspiring. This contemporary version of Swan Lake is choreographed by Bolshoi trained Sergei Vanaev, to the dramatic score of Tchaikovsky. After an acclaimed debut in Europe, this powerful avant-garde retelling premières in the US. The artists of Mystic Ballet unravel a story of love, betrayal, and sacrifice through the lives of two brothers; one fighting for his place in life and the other for the throne. Review - Sharma Haward, The Day “Clearly, choreographer Sergei Vanaev’s treatment of “Swan Lake” is not conventional –This is for contemporary audiences, it keeps the lush score by Tchaikovsky and the enchanted element of swan-humans, but has its own story line that plucks at the primal chords inherent in human nature – envy, desire, covetousness, and the ego’s ceaseless battle between good and evil. It rises from the muck of primeval emotions to explore humanity’s aspirations for enlightenment.” Full work (I act) 25 minutes, can be arranged to 17 min.
