Our Rugs गल#चा

Whether Program or Atelier, our rugs are expertly woven to create a true depiction of craftmanship. We won't tell you the usual “we are the one of the leading manufacturers of rugs” but we can tell you that we are the best. Our weaving and finishing department consists of professionals that have been with us for about 2 decades and have now perfected their work. We have collective experience that now exceeds most seasoned designers in our industry. Let us guide you through our process.

Acquiring Yarn- काती

We first head to our workshop, where we go through our 2000 wide library of yarns to decide which colors and textures we should work with. Our team of yarn and color experts decide which fiber is optimal given the client’s taste and preferences. Once decided, we send an order for procurement. The received yarn is then sent to our hand carders.

Spinning कटाई

After a bumpy ride, the yarn reaches village homes, where it is carded and thoroughly cleaned. It is then spun on traditional wheels and unwound. Bhadohi craftspeople have been involved in this process for centuries. The process has been traditionally carried out by women farmers who find free time between the sowing and harvesting seasons.

Dyeing डाइंग

A major part of our yarn dyeing is carried out by independent crafts people who have set up dyeing wells in their own backyards. This provides them with a livelihood and independence to work. Without any training, these craftspeople recognize colors almost as perfect as a seasoned designer. At MYS we believe there is potential in our community, and we strive to employ these local craftspeople to keep this trade alive.

Drying सुखाना

Like tomatoes, color best matures when the yarn is sun dried. The fibers are spread across village roofs and empty fields to maximize the area utilized. In the winter months, we use tungsten and halogen lights to mimic sunlight and it’s heat so we can guarantee similar results. This process is the most unreliable as it may take anywhere from 2 hours in the summer to 2 weeks in the winter to dry these yarns.

Weaving िबनाई

After being thoroughly dried, the yarn reaches the weavers at the looms, where it passes through their hands to between the warp and wefts to create truly unique rugs. Each artisan is skilled in a particular set of style; from knotted to handloom. These skills are passed to others in the family to where you can see partners weaving next to each other. All our rugs are good weave certified.

Washing धल ु ाई

The rugs are then taken to craftspeople who wash these with fresh water and elbow grease to get rid of loose fibers and stains that could have creeped in during the weaving process. This process loosens the rug and gives it luster and flexibility. Every weaving technique and every material has a different washing technique privy only to these craftspeople.

Finishing ं ,फ़.न0शग

After a good wash and stretch, the rug moves on to the finishers. These artisans carefully trim the extra fibers and pluck out any extra fluff. The rugs with extensive designs go through a process called ‘Berai’ where each stray fiber is straightened out to exactly meet the design required. This process can make or break a rug; so, we do this in-house under strict supervision. The finishing process has 4 quality checks before final inspection and packing
