LOCAL FOODIE

HIGHLIGHT:

MARCO DINO’S

RISTORANTE VIC TORIA SANZ

Located in the same building that housed the original Sanford Herald Newspaper, Marco Dino’s is a lovely haven for food lovers who like a bit of grandeur. Though Marco Dino’s opened in 2012, No major renovations have been done since the building first opened in 1910. The original hard wood floors and tin ceilings remain—giving this restaurant a classic backdrop for its laid-back atmosphere. The Mediterranean Pizza arrived to us from straight out the oven. We had to wait a bit for it, but the wait was worth it. Piping hot, and fulfilling that cheese craving all true pizza lovers search for, this was split between two people and was reasonably priced at $12. The pizza was accompanied by the Bleu Cheese and Bacon Mac: a $5 appetizer adventurous enough to give us a run for our money. The bacon added a gratifying smoky character to the mac and cheese—toss in a bit of the piquant edge that bleu cheese offers, and let’s just say there weren’t any leftovers. I finished my meal by ordering an old fashioned, neat. The whiskey was superb and fared at a better price than many other establishments with less than half the ability to make a good drink. So, what’s the verdict? We weren’t expecting much from the façade of the restaurant, but from the moment we entered to the moment we left, we were pleasantly surprised. Try Marco Dino’s yourself by visiting Magnolia Square, in the heart of downtown Sanford. 31
