Alberto Lysy was a brilliant Argentinean violinist of Ukrainian descent, wonderful teacher, founder of the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, soloist and concert master of the Camerata chamber orchestra, honored citizen of Argentina. I was very lucky to study with Maestro, perform together with him, and be his assistant. Years of study in the Academy were full of concerts in the most renowned concert halls of the world, recordings, master classes with top musicians, participation in international competitions. Thanks to Maestro, the Academy students had the opportunity to study, to interact and perform on stage with Yehudi Menuhin. "Menuhin is my musical father" often said Alberto Lysy, who wƏɀ xƺȇɖǝǣȇٔɀ ȒȇǼɵ ȒǔˡƬǣƏǼ ɀɎɖƳƺȇt. Alberto Lysy often performed as a soloist with orchestra at the concerts. A romantic from birth, he had unique timbre, perfect intonation, a special, unusual attitude to music. He was always unforgettable to the audience. Alberto Lysy gave many concerts in Ukraine - in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa. Lviv audience remembers his concerts in the Philharmonic Concert Hall with Camerata chamber orchestra, Lviv Virtuosos chamber orchestra, as well as his solo appearances. Concerts in Ukraine were always special for him - they were surrounded by meetings with relatives and compatriots, as his parents were from Ukraine. Maestro has raised many great musicians, winners of numerous international competitions, including Liviu Prunaru, a concert master of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Amsterdam), Bogdan Zvoristeanu, concert master of Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva), Andriy Viytovych, principal violist of Royal Opera House orchestra (Covent Garden, London.) Alberto Lysy remains in my memory as an exemplary teacher, an ideal I strive to maintain in my own pedagogic practice at the International Menuhin Music Academy and the Geneva Conservatory. The Alberto Lysy Festival in Lviv, in which Maestro's students participate, is an attempt to give our humble tribute and express our deep respect and gratitude to the great violinist and teacher Alberto Lysy. — Oleg Kaskiv founder, artistic director of the festival.

WolfganǕ ȅaƳƺɖɀ xozart. String Quintet No. 4 in G minor, K. 516 ȇtȒȇǥȇ (voȺák. Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81

The G minor key for Mozart had special character, from just a bit melancholic to, at times, outright sad and tragic. The Fifth String Quintet is not an exception, and especially the third movement, Andante, which Pyotr Tchaikovsky had admired so much. The quintet is also interesting in a different way - Mozart has decided to start the Finale with a slower Andante (contrary to the tradition), and only later the music develops into a more expected Allegroً ˡȇƏǼǼɵ Ərriving into a Major key. Dvorak's Piano Quintet lasts nearly 40 minutes and is a truly powerful expression of the late romantic composer in the domain of chamber music. This musical journey will evoke images of real and imaginary worlds. And the second movement of the work is titled by the composer as "Dumka" - a Ukrainian reference.

SerǕƺǣ ProkȒˡev. Sonata for violin and piano in D (originally fȒȸ ˢɖte) Guillauȅƺ Lekeu. Sonata for violin and piano in G major stȒȸ Piazzolla. The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (Cuatro 0staciones Porteñas)

7

Guillaume Lekeu, a Belgian composer of late 19th century, is so easily and masterfully creating a musical conversation with late Beethoven, melancholic César Franck, and expressive Wagner - and in addition to that Lekeu sends clear signals into the future 20th century. Violin Sonata No. 2 by ProkȒˡev is an arrangement of his oɯȇ ˢɖte sonata, a version that the composer created with advice from David Oistrakh. The Sonata sounds perfectly in both versions, and it is probably impossible to guess which one was writtƺȇ ˡrɀɎٕ yet each version retains a timbral reminiscence of the other one. The sonata is musically very vivid and has an element of Spring freshness. The title of the four-tangos-seansons "0staciones Porteñas" by Astor Piazzolla is not possible to translate directly, as it speaks not only about Buenos-Aires itself, but also about its people, ones who live there or come from there, and bring in their hearts the spirit of the city... (Alberto Lysy was one of them.) Seasons change, tango remains...

FƺǼǣɴ xƺndelssohn. String OctƺɎ ǣȇ 0٫ˢƏɎ ȅƏǴȒr, Op. 20 PyȒɎȸ Tchaikovsky. String Sextet in D minor, Op. 70 (Souvenir de Florence)

Felix Mendelssohn has written his String Octet when he was only 16, as a gift to his violin teacher. Yet this is not the earliest of Mendelssohn's compositions, who has been composing String Symphonies at the age of 12. The Octet blends the distinction between chamber and orchestral music, and even the composer himself wrote that the octet must be played "in symphonic orchestral style." Souvenir de Florence is a late work by Tchaikovsky, composed three years before his death. Despite a bit "impressionistic" title of the work, the music rather gravitates to tradition, where the balance of form and attention to compositional details dominates. Here Tchaikovsky pays homage to centuries of cultural heritage of Florence, instead of just conveying a mood of a contemporary moment. Like with Mendelssohn, this work has a certain orchestral dimension, and its polyphonic episodes give it more architectural intricateness and intellectual depth.

Oleg Kaskiv was born in 1978 in the small Ukrainian village Kremenetz into a family of musicians. He began playing violin at the age of 7 under the guidance of his violinists parents and later entered Mykola Lysenko National Academy of Music in Lviv. In 1996, Oleg won a scholarship to study in Switzerland at the famous International Menuhin Music Academy (IMMA). At the Academy, Oleg's great mentor was Professor Alberto Lysy who got his education directly from Lord Yehudi Menuhin and was his only pupil. Today Oleg Kaskiv is a soloist and main violin professor at the IMMA. As a soloist, Oleg Kaskiv regularly performs with great success in his native country with the National Symphony of Ukraine, Odesa Philharmonic and Lviv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestras and worǼƳɯǣƳƺ‫ ي‬with the Camerata Lysy, Camerata de Lausanne, Symphoniker Orchester Zürich, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal and Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden. He plays a violin from Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, one of the greatest violin makers in the music history, which is lent to him to recognize his high class as a violinist and a musician.

Distinguished by the international press for his outstanding musicianship and communication skills, Pablo de Naverán has captivated both the public and critics since very young, in venues like the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Tokyo and Osaka Symphony Hall, Victoria Hall (Genève), Tonhalle (Zürich), Philharmonie (Berlin), Teatro Arriaga (Bilbao), or Mozarteum (Salzburg). At the age of 11 he began studying cello with Mihai Besedovschi, being selected at 17 in the prestigious International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad, where he studied with Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Alberto Lysy and Radu Aldulescu. He joined later the class of Philippe Muller at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he completed his academic degree and obtained the highest distinction. He was awarded numerous prizes in national and international competitions such as the International Cello Competition Gaspar Cassadó, National Spanish Chamber Music Competition for Young Musicians, First Prize at the Conservatoire National de Paris, or the interpretation Award of the College of Spain in Paris. Being 27 he was appointed Professor of Cello and Chamber Music at the International Menuhin Academy in Switzerland, activity he combines today with the professorship at the Conservatory of Music of Badajoz. Pablo de Naverán plays on a cello Carlo Antonio Testore, 1723.
