About the artisans Ella’s mother, Nez, lived nearly her entire life on the Navajo reservation in a hogan with no electricity or running water. A single mother of 10 children, she provided for her family through hard work and handcrafting traditional blankets to sell. Decades later, Ella, with her daughters Sheila and Valerie, formed Sáanii Dahayóóígíí, or Women of Strength, to honor Nez’s tradition of hard work and handcraft.

Each day Raksha Nepal seeks to foster economic independence through skills-based training, bring justice to perpetrators of sexual exploitation, and create awareness of sex crimes in Nepal. To date, Raksha is responsible for the rescue and rehabilitation of 790 children and has provided vocational training for more than 500 women.
