Welcome When it comes to property, ‘auction’ is pretty much a dirty word – or at least one that is shrouded in controversy and destined to spark some heated debates at the watercooler. But while most capital cities in the country thrive off the back of successful property auctions, the Queensland market has always lagged a bit when it comes to selling under the hammer, and on the Sunshine Coast, it would seem we’re a little slow on the uptake. Some passionately advocate the effectiveness of auctions, yet some loathe them. This week, Jemma Pearson takes a look at buying and selling property under the hammer, and discovers it’s more about the actual process, not necessarily just about the auction day. In fact, most auction properties sell in the two- to four-week time frame after the big day. By many, this result is still considered a success. So are auctions misunderstood and do we just need to adjust our mindset? Decide for yourself and turn to page six to get the lowdown.
