FALL 2016

EDITOR’S NOTE

one for the books Fall – always an exciting time! For as long as I can remember, fall has been my favorite of the seasons – but let’s be honest, is anyone NOT in love with it (even a little)? What is it that makes fall so beloved by so many? It can’t just be the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s the easing into the busier holiday rush at the end of the season – it’s the ‘not too hot, not too cold’ allure – where the world finds its proper balance. It’s the calm, but it’s also the ‘back to school’ mentality – which refocuses ourselves for a freshened state of mind, health, and ambitious work ethic. It’s a time to change things up! This issue is meant to inspire and encourage you to find your balance and to remind you to have fun, make the most from friendships, embrace the beauty in individuality and to enjoy each day – you deserve it. Take time for yourself, whether gathering with those you cherish most, or – simply dedicating extra time to your beauty routine so you can wake up feeling your absolute best, each and every day. This is a time to put your best foot forward – this season is one to remember, so make the most of it, savor this time. Thank you, for your continued readership and support – you have continued to inspire me, which is what shapes and affects the way in which we offer these issues to you, each and every season. With the warmest of heart –

d n i h be THE SCENES

Who doesn’t love the fall?! This issue was pretty flawless to create, aside from the 100o plus temps in Los Angeles (up until… about a week ago!) Nonetheless, everything from our glam makeup looks by our favorite, Blushington- to one of our main clothing contributors, Paper Crown- a line co-founded and designed by Lauren Conrad -made the season quickly feel like true fall (even if the weather didn’t!) thanks to those around us who made it so idyllic! The processes can be just as rewarding as the outcome and our BTS moments are proof of this.

One of the best things to do during this season is to “fall” into a great book! On these crisp autumn days, sometimes there is no better way to relax than to curl up with a cozy blanket, a captivating book and a warm cup of coffee. Reading is also a fun way to involve friends by starting or joining a book club and it is an engaging way to keep your mind active. Here are our top five page turners for this fall. Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind over Body

Paris, He Said By Christine Sneed

By Olivia Laing

The Assistants By Camille Perri

Under the Harrow By Flynn Berry

After six years working in New York, the glamour has worn off and the bills are piling up when a thirty year old executive assistant is presented with an opportunity to pay off all her debt due to a technical error in her boss’s expense report. She faces an important decision: she has been an honest, hard worker, but the amount would be mere pocket change to her boss. This book will appeal to anyone who has ever felt they cannot get ahead by playing by the rules.

bonus

This novel explores the bond between sisters and the hauntings of the past. This psychological thriller is for anyone who loved Broadchurch or The Girl on the Train. mollymy.com

THE MAGIC NUMBER

for beautiful skin in your 20s and beyond

The day I turned twenty one I remember thinking, “gosh, in nine years I’ll be thirty.” Immediately I put a plan into action to preserve my skin to the best of my ability without going broke doing it. The first thing to remember is that your skin is the largest organ in your body. So what you eat, drink and put onto your skin matters. Here are three tips to try every morning, noon and night to keep your skin looking amazing well past your 20s.

1Drink a big glass of water MORNING

2Clean up with homemade cucumber wash Clean up with homemade cucumber wash; cucumbers are extremely hydrating, which makes them the perfect ingredient for a DIY skincare remedy - there are so many benefits to having well hydrated skin!

Drink a big glass of water first thing in the AM. Aim to drink a glass of water every time you urinate, as it will help you remember to drink up— and follow this rule of thumb: drink half your bodyweight in ounces per day. So, if you weigh 130 pounds, sip 65 ounces of water throughout your daily routine. There are so many ways to make drinking water enjoyable — add fresh herbs, lemon or other various seasonal favorites to make water your beverage of choice. Your skin will love you for it! Here’s some simple (just two ingredients each), fall infused water suggestions to be paired with filtered hot or cold water -- use as much or as little of the below ingredients as you’d like):

1

fresh pear slices and cinnamon sticks

2 3

fresh green apple slices and fresh sprigs of rosemary fresh orange slices and Star Anise

Here’s what you need to create the best homemade cucumber wash: Ingredients 1 half of a cucumber peeled 1/4 cup of full fat greek yogurt A squeeze of lime or lemon A handful of fresh herbs, such as fresh mint How To Blend together until smooth -- apply morning and night for a few days (until you run out). Simple as that! You can drink the rest as a smoothie or preserve it for up to three days inside the refrigerator (in a sealed container).

3Apply Witch Hazel

Apply Witch Hazel (one of the oldest astringents and still I think the best) with a cotton ball or cosmetic pad to your face and neck before applying makeup and sunscreen. Witch Hazel is known to help fight acne (it has significant antibacterial and antiseptic qualities), loosen blackheads, lock in moisture, refresh skin and even treat sunburn! Here’s a couple of great sunscreen recommendations (with tint), which my clients (and I) count on: *SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 — it’s paraben free/chemical, filter free and has a universal tint. *Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Minerals — it contains no oil and no talc, offering gorgeous shades to match any skin tone. Note: if you will be out in the sunshine for long periods of time, wear a UV protected hat and the best sunglasses you can afford.

21

FALL 2016

After a nutritious lunch of a protein, veggies and yes, more water — try this:

1Head down

Hang your head down for a count of 26 or say the alphabet (speak accentuated); it gets blood flow to your face and neck and helps flush out impurities from the inside out. Not to mention, your face will have a pink glow afterwards, like you ran a few miles during lunch (without all the sticky sweat)!

NOON

2Re-apply moisturizer / SP F 3Breathe deep Re-apply moisturizer / SPF (and if needed, makeup) using the “stippling technique” — use your fingertips and pat around your eyes and mouth — don’t forget your neck!

FALL 2016

22

mollymy.com

Take a deep breath. There’s nothing like getting some high quality 02 into your body. Throw in a few minutes of meditation or mind clearing — clear mind, clear skin!

NIGHT

1 Wash up, again

Wash up, again. Remove makeup and clean your skin using circular motions. You can even try a homemade scrub with a little sugar and a few drops of lemon or lime — apply, and rinse well. Finish with Witch Hazel (as a toner). If you’re taking a shower, try coconut oil as a body moisturizer — keep in mind, the rest of your skin needs attention too!

2Sweat it out

Unless you’re a morning person, hit the gym in the evening and sweat it out! When you sweat you detox and the less toxins you carry with you, the more your skin will glow. After your workout, don’t touch your face, rinse and clean as soon as possible — this will help keep any bacteria at bay, especially if you have acne prone skin.

3Hit the hay

Hit the hay — it’s time for night cream and eye creams. Stipple, stipple, stipple — eye skin is delicate so be gentle. With eye cream, stipple toward your nose on the top of the cheekbone and around the frame of your eye, just under the brow, while not getting too close to the eye, then stipple toward the nose. Apply any leftover eye cream over the top of your lip. When applying night cream, use upward strokes on your neck and jawline. It’s important to find creams that work best with your skin type.

Ahhh… nicely done! At the end of the day, find yourself grateful and thankful, even if the day was tough. Take a few deep breaths, say your affirmations and get plenty of sleep. Is it magic? No. However, I believe simple, not expensive — and extremely rewarding. The magic number is 3.

it’s that easy. mollymy.com

By Stephi Maron,

Founder & CCO Blushington Makeup and Beauty Lounge

When it comes to beauty, sometimes you just don’t have the time – between busy work-life and a social calendar that has you here, there and everywhere, time can be tight. This season is all about finding “pretty”; the kind of pretty that’s unique and beautiful about YOU. If you’re in a rush, your beauty doesn’t have to take the backseat. Molly My went straight to the source – beauty expert and Blushington Makeup and Beauty Lounge founder Stephi Maron for a ‘less is more’ effortless glam look – it was so simple, we had to share! Application time: 10 minutes (or less!) Tip: Use a Beauty Blender sponge to get an airbrush finish. *All products listed are available at Blushington locations.

I’ve always believed in the saying ‘less is more when it comes to your makeup, but more is more when it comes to customer service’. Makeup is there to cover the “imperfections” you want to keep to yourself – i.e.: blemishes, redness, dark circles, etc. but it’s also there to enhance what you already have (in a natural fresh faced kind of way). Your skin should feel breathable, your freckles should shine; after all, confidence is always key! Makeup has the ability to enhance your best features, so you feel your best even when you may not have the time for your full makeup routine. This ‘less is more’ look is perfect for the gal on the go; you’ll feel and look pretty. We always say @Blushington “Feeling Pretty is Priceless” – when you feel pretty, your entire day, persona and so on can change. Feeling pretty is pretty powerful. For the ideal ‘less is more’ look I opt for a few of my favorite go-to products – here are the three products I used on Molly:

1

Becca Beach Tints in Guava and Fig

2 3

Stila Eyeshadow Trio in Bronze Glow Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals in Bronze

I love mixing the Becca Beach Tints together – you can apply it on your eyes, lips, and cheeks. It’s a great product to have in your bag when you just need to freshen up throughout the day. It’s also water-resistant so it will last for hours.

y t t e r p g n i l e e “f pr iceless” is mollymy.com

25

FALL 2016

I also can’t get enough of the Stila Eyeshadow Trio, also a great product to always have on hand. I use all three colors – you can go from a day to night look in 5 minutes! I tend to use the lightest shade for the inner corner highlight and brow bone highlight.

The last product that I used is my new Bronzer obsession by Vita Liberata. They are an organic spray tanning brand and their products are incredible. You can use this product as an eyeshadow and it instantly opens up your eyes making you look more awake. Try it all over your face and body – it always makes me feel like I just came back from Hawaii! You get that sun kissed, natural bronzing glow. It’s also buildable which I like -– start light and you can always add. If you’re in a hurry, reach for these products – you can do a lot with them!

If you have a little more time -- you can add a few more steps When timing isn’t as tight, I always start by prepping the lips first with a lip balm that conditions, moisturizes, and plumps; I love using Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer (a lip plumper balm). Then I prep and prime. Try: Beauty RX Balancing cleanser and toner and Eve Lom Radiance Primer (these are some of my favorites). Then apply a light foundation onto the skin avoiding the under eyes (I used Eve Lom Tinted Moisturizer on Molly). From there we go to the eyes -- I like to finish the eyes, mascara, and brows before I finish the rest of the face. I used Kevyn Aucoin Volume Mascara, Billion Dollar Brows in Taupe for Molly’s brows and Stay All Day Liner in Lionfish eyeliner. Then, apply concealer if needed, bronzer, blush and touch of highlighter. I used Becca Beach Tint in Guava and Fig for Molly’s eyes, lips and cheeks!

There you have it! Less is more never looked so good. If you have any questions for me find @blushington on Instagram and hashtag

Fall for Style WHAT TO WEAR RIGHT NOW--

and everything in between

By Anita Patrickson,

Celebrity Fashion Stylist

New seasons are exciting -- they bring with them different weather, traditions, recipes, and of course (our favorite) trends. It’s possible that the start of a new season can also be a little overwhelming -- after all, how do you keep up with all the latest, all of the time?! Thankfully, there are pros like celebrity fashion stylist Anita Patrickson that make being informed a whole lot easier. Anita is a style goddess, the keeper of all things utterly chic -- with a client roster filled with some of Hollywood’s most well dressed “it” girls -- what Anita says, goes! This season, Anita pulls together some must know trends -- and is sharing insider knowledge to help you navigate through the fall, flawlessly. Let’s get started, shall we? FALL 2016

28

mollymy.com

As far as one’s wardrobe goes, I know that for many, fall is their favorite and often, most intimidating time of year! It’s all about cozy layers, warm hues and introducing new textures and fabrics. With a few tips and tricks, I can help you navigate your closet and embrace the chilly weather in style.

Key fall pieces There are some key fall pieces one should have on hand. Take a great cashmere coat that can do the work for you, even if you just wear jeans and a white tee underneath. You can grab an item that makes your look feel expensive and pulled together (like a great bag). A gorgeous wide brimmed hat works for windy fall days, frizzy hair days and just plain lazy days, because with a fabulous hat, it doesn’t really matter what the rest of your outfit looks like! Lastly, a gorgeous dress for all the cocktail parties that start happening around the holidays -- something in velvet would be a beautiful way to stay warm as well as stay on trend!

The “wardrobe basics” There are pieces that should really remain in your closet all year long -- I call this the “wardrobe basics.” There are about 10 items you should own that are all impeccably tailored and beautifully cared for, these should last you years (and throughout every season): blazers, white, grey and black tees, jeans that make your butt look good, booties, a light cashmere sweater, blouses in white silk and chambray, dusters or a trench, a fabulous party dress and a leather jacket. And note: with summer just behind us, you don’t need to hide away all your warmer weather pieces -- items that feel summery but can transition easily are perfect to keep around well into fall, like a printed floral dress -- this item paired with tights can feel very ‘fall appropriate’ in one easy step.

Trends to try This fall feels very luxurious in its trends, even the colors are warm and sumptuous. This is the season of rich, Renaissance vibes. Velvet, brooches, ruffles and ornate jackets. Gorgeous jewel tones of bordeaux, rose gold and deep midnight blues.

Embellishments are a fabulous way to add texture and depth to a look. If a full outfit feels too heavy for you opt, for an embellished accessory like a fabulous clutch or a shoe.

Metallics are once again ruling the runway; everything from golds and silvers to coppers, bronze, rose golds and pewter -- layer them on and mix your metals this season!

Perhaps the most obvious and biggest trend this fall is the Renaissance vibe. It’s all about military jackets, high necked ruffled blouses, ornate bows and brooches and deep velvet. You can stop your look from becoming too literal by adding in fabrics like denim jeans to a velvet blazer, or throwing a leather jacket over a velvet dress to break it up. If this trend feels like it’s too much for you, opt for something small and subtle like a brooch and add them to a blazer or a peacoat. FALL 2016

Trends that don’t cost a ton If you’re looking to try a new trend, but find your budget a little tight, fear not! Accessories like brooches can be found at inexpensive outlets and they still look fabulous. Statement earrings are a great way to add some sass to your look without breaking the bank. Ruffled blouses, which can be found all over, will add instant ‘medieval’ vibes to a simple pant or jeans.

Feel put together (always) – wit h a black blazerr A black blazer is my best friend in my closet. You can wear it over the shoulders for an instantly chic look, it’s ALWAYS flattering, and goes with everything from a striped tee and jeans, to a high neck ruffled blouse and cigarette pants. It works from morning to night and you can even make it trendy for just one season by adding that all important accessory this fall -- the brooch!

ife is all about embracing the simple things -- like cozy afternoons and a good cup of hot coffee. Fall is the most idyllic time to slow down, treasure the extra bit of crisp in the air and simply be thankful for days spent just like these; with best friends and nothing more on the agenda. Finding ways to celebrate, big or small, make those every day, sometimes daunting tasks, seem much more manageable -- this season bring people together, give friends something to look forward to, but more importantly, give yourself something to be really, really thankful for -- togetherness!

Cozy gatherings are just that -- cozy. For any gathering, you want guests to feel comfortable, but we’re not just talking about a comfy seat to sit in, we’re talking about a welcoming feeling as soon as they walk through the door! You want to make it hard for them to leave! So how do you create a space that feels cozy? Well, it starts with good people, but let’s talk decor deets.

FALL 2016

Fall is all about cozy places -- and adding a little warmth into your space doesn’t need to cost a lot, or take much time. Here are some tips you need to know right now:

candles

FALL 2016

throws

1

add a candle

Everyone loves a good candle -- not only does it give off a scent, it instantly relaxes you. When entertaining, pick one up that smells of something widely favored for fall: pomegranate, saddlewood or vanilla fit the bill nicely!

2

add a throw blanket/pillow Think about what makes you personally feel at home -- usually, your own bed, pillows, blanket, etc. -- try to create that same feeling for others. A cashmere throw might be a little pricey (oh so cozy!), but typically it lasts forever and is worth the investment. If you’re looking to spend a little less, opt for a soft cotton throw, something knit and pillows that share a common color to mix and match throughout the space.

3

sip something hot Like coffee, tea, or hot chocolate! Having something hot for your guests to sip and hold onto to warm their bodies is one of the best feelings when temps get a little cooler outside.

4

grab some fresh blooms Often times flowers are mistaken for a spring/summer necessity only, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! Blooms add a homey touch, they’re gorgeous and bring in an organic element that guests can relate to the particular season -- look for sunflowers, shades of magenta, vintage hydrangeas and leafy fillers (you can even grab some leaves off of your own backyard trees!).

5

incorporate warmer tones (especially if you’re looking to bring in the fall season) Warmer tones set the mood -- think burnt orange, forest green, dark purple, etc. there are so many variations that work within all kinds of spaces. Even if your space has some pink and white walls you can work with it (add darker shades of pink, burnt orange golds and silvers); don’t disregard your usual favorites for the sake of the season, or the mood of a party. The term “traditional” has so many different kinds of meanings nowadays -- really, anything goes!

FALL 2016

As the holidays swing into full force, that easeful mindset we promised ourselves can get lost in the busyness of the season -- especially if you’re hosting, but fear not, you’ve got this! Here are some tips on how to host like a pro, stress free:

FALL 2016

44

mollymy.com

1

make a checklist

Hosting a gathering (big or small) requires pre-planning -- instead of rushing around at the last minute, plan ahead and start picking up odds and ends as you go about your daily activities weeks prior. Meaning, if you know you’ll need snack foods like pretzels, candies, etc. grab them as you make your usual grocery store runs leading up to the party. Using a checklist will help you keep track of what you already have, need to buy and have bought -- organize it from nonperishable to perishable (the items you’ll buy the day before, or day of the gathering).

2

get friends involved Enlist friends to help! For example, if you have a friend who really likes music, take the burden off yourself and ask her if she’d like to put together a playlist or two (it’s a huge compliment) -- if you’re outsourcing for something that costs money (like baking, flower arranging, etc.), offer to pay for the supplies to make it easy and stress-free for your friend to help out. On the day of the gathering, good friends come in handy more than ever! Tap friends to help spark conversations with those who might not know each other, take photos, pour drinks and so on -- chances are they’ll be happy to step in! This helps you focus on hosting rather than the running around/making sure everyone is having fun.

3

organize your guest list

Hosting 101 -- don’t invite people that don’t mesh well together! Not everyone needs to know one another but guests will feel much more comfortable if they’re amongst people they find interesting, funny, or have something in common with -- that’s not to say you can’t mix “groups” because you surely can, but just be cautious as you plan and organize your guest list.

4

have something for everyone

Nowadays there are a lot of different dietary needs, preferences and so on -- you can’t please everyone but stick to key foods that will be enjoyed by most (restrictions or not). For example, some guests might be gluten-free or on a health kick, so, to be sure they have something to snack on, set out hummus and veggies -- even those not on a limited diet will enjoy the various options and those that are restricted, will have something yummy to dig into!

5

set aside some “me” time

The entire mood of the event can be determined by the host and their attitude. By setting aside some “me” time before a gathering you’re giving yourself better odds to enjoy the party as well -- you don’t want to be stressed, tired or non-present when hosting, you want to be lively, positive and upbeat. Afterall, you are the hostess -- lead by example and others will follow with ease.

LEAF GARLAND

Talk about an easy way to add a little festive feel to your season -- all you need are these three things! Hang this garland on a wall, fireplace or simply lay as a part of your tablescape. What You’ll Need: • • •

Twine of your choice. Leaves with stems (real or faux) -- the longer you’d like your garland, the more leaves you’ll need. Spray paint (metallic shown here).

How To Make It: •

• •

FALL 2016

50

mollymy.com

Dedicate a space to spray painting (it can get a little messy!). Start by spray painting each leaf, then lay leaves flat to dry. Once leaves are completely dry, grab your string and start to tie! One by one, at the base of the stem, tie a double knot to secure the leaf to the string. Leave an inch or two between each leaf and continue to tie the remaining leaves onto the string. Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll have a gorgeous garland for display!

CHOCOLATE DIPPED SPOONS

These make for sweet gifts -- they’re also perfectly fit to display at any seasonal gathering for guests to dip into a warm cup of coffee. What You’ll Need: • • • • •

Teaspoons (as many as you’d like)! 1 bag of milk chocolate chips (or more). Toppings of your choice (here we used dried rose petals, pink sea salt and crushed graham crackers). Baking sheet. Wax paper.

How To Make It: •

• •

FALL 2016

52

mollymy.com

In a microwave safe bowl, melt the bag of milk chocolate (about 30 seconds depending on the power of your microwave); stir until smooth. In the meantime, line a baking sheet with wax paper. Once the chocolate chips are completely melted, grab a spoon and dip it into the melted chocolate until the entire spoon is covered. Place on the wax paper-lined baking sheet. Select which toppings to use for each and top while the chocolate is still warm on the spoon (this will help to make sure the toppings stick) -- there’s no rule to which variation of toppings you use, whatever you/your guests like! Continue dipping spoons until all are covered in chocolate and topped with favorite toppings!

Q&A

LAUREN CONRAD + MAURA McMANUS

friends first

Paper Crown was created “for those who want to have fun, and look lovely while doing so” -sign us up! Co-founder and designer, Lauren Conrad, along with co-founder and COO, Maura McManus have celebrated feminine charm through their ever evolving clothing line since the debut collection launched in stores in 2011. Not only are these two ladies business partners, but they’re also best friends; to us, there’s nothing more inspiring than friends joining together to support one another, sharing goals and passions. Needless to say, we had to ask some questions! Find out what Lauren still aspires to achieve and what these two think is the best part about working with your best friend. FALL 2016

64

mollymy.com

Q:

Being that you have made such an impression on the millennial generation, what do you pride yourself on being known for?

Lauren Conrad:

I appreciate this; thank you. I don’t ever think of myself actively aiming to impress or instruct my peers. With this in mind, I do understand and am humbled by the notion that I am a role model to some. Knowing myself, being who I am and being secure in that are what I am most proud of on a personal level. I hope as an entrepreneur, I can inspire others looking to follow their own pursuits.

Q: LC:

Q: LC:

Where does inspiration come from in your life and how do you bring it into your work? Inspiration comes from nearly EVERYWHERE! A flower in my garden can become the color scheme of an upcoming collection.

You’ve achieved so much in your life so far, what’s the one thing that you still aspire to achieve?

LC:

Q: LC:

Q: LC:

I was never the child or even college student that I knew what she wanted to “be”. I remember being frustrated by this because I was excited and anxious to get my career started. I enjoy creativity but am business-minded. I honed in on these two characteristics and focused on developing my skills. A fashion brand is quite possibly the personification of both.

Q: MM:

What’s your favorite way to celebrate the fall season?

Q:

Cooking and baking up a storm! I just made the first chicken pot pie of the season and it instantly made it feel like fall!

MM:

What’s been the most challenging aspect of being a clothing designer? With any creative profession, there is an innate frustration that what is designed as a complete collection usually is not purchased in the same way. I guess that is also the beauty of being a designer! What I set out to design can be interpreted in hundreds of ways.

What’s next for the Lauren Conrad brand?

When you were younger, what did you want to become when you grew up?

Maura McManus:

I love this question! I think it’s so important to look at life with a measure of personal accomplishments and not “success.” I associate achievement with desire and the individual focused drive of working towards a goal. Everyday I aspire towards something, whether that be in my personal relationships, creatively or business related, I think it’s important to always aspire towards something, big or small.

everyday I aspire towards something...

Q:

Q:

Q:

It’s difficult to run a business, how do you stay inspired? Building a brand and running a business is unbelievably rewarding. Anything can be difficult. I see challenges as opportunities and we have built an incredible team that allows us to succeed every day.

Who has had the greatest influence in your life? Yikes! That’s a big question. Immediately, I think of my grandfather. As a businessman he was remarkably hard-working, dedicated, strategic and forward-thinking.

What’s the best part about working with your best friend?

LC & MM:

We’re best friends and we’ve built a brand together; that’s pretty awesome! We’re able to challenge each other professionally in a way that encourages growth on a individual level, which in turn, strengthens our roles in business. For us, career and friendship are one in the same, each supporting the other.

veryone needs a fangirl or two (or six!). Our friends constantly remind us of how important it is to support one another -- whether helping to set up a tailgate party (cough, cough), or simply being there for us when we’ve had a rough day. In this case, a fangirl isn’t just by your side for the sake of a game, but instead embodies fangirl-esque qualities as a way of life in all aspects -- like work, romantic relationships, family matters and so on. A fangirl is upbeat, positive, cheerful, loyal and always there when you need her the most. We believe you should surround yourself with those who support you and help lift you higher because they make your light burn even brighter! One brand we love that is sending the right message is Paper Crown; a blend of romantic, vintage-inspired design and contemporary edge, with a feminine and elegant aesthetic -- cofounded by Lauren Conrad and Maura Oehm. These ladies know just what it takes to create the right vibe and we love what they’ve created together as two best friends. That said, we thought we’d take this opportunity to share some thoughts on what it means to be a fangirl (plus, share how WE throw a tailgate party!) --

make time for others

Like you would a preplanned event, such as a tailgate party -- make time for fun with friends, even when it might be difficult. We all have our own busy schedules, but we also each have the same number of hours in our day, it’s how you use your time that matters. Not to mention, setting aside a little catch up will not only make your bestie(s) feel appreciated, but could make you more productive -- it’s said: those who are the busiest, tend to make use of time more wisely.

EXIT INTERVIEW

jillian. Jillian Murray

Actress Jillian Murray currently stars alongside Marcia Gay Harden and Rob Lowe on CBS’ hit show, Code Black. Murray portrays Dr. Heather Pinkney, an acerbic and aggressive surgical resident whose confidence has gotten her ahead as often as it has held her back. Season two of the medical drama returned September 28th and we’ve been hooked since day one! We always love hearing more from ladies that are living out their dreams -- and Jillian is doing just that; here’s what she had to say:

Q: A:

Define “passion” as it means to you.

Passion is something that makes you feel alive. It gives you a reason to wake up in the morning. Pushes you to work harder. It’s what I look for in all the work I do and in all the relationships I have. You currently play a Doctor in Code Black; how did you prepare for the role? The whole cast went through medical boot camp. We got to work one on one with other doctors and nurses and learn a ton of procedures. For the more complex procedures, we get to meet with a doctor right before we start filming that episode and run through the surgeries. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to those looking to break into the entertainment industry? Follow your passion and set goals for yourself. I love writing goal lists for the year. It helps me stay on track.

FALL 2016

88

mollymy.com

As a woman, there can be a lot of pressure as it relates to body image - how do you focus on the positives you find in yourself? Yes, there is a lot of pressure in the industry with regards to women’s looks. I try not to compare myself to other women but it’s difficult with social media throwing retouched images in your face all day. I try not to focus on my outward appearance because I find it very distracting as an actor. Being an actor it’s about listening to the other person and being fully present in the moment. You can’t be fully present in a scene where you’re saving someone’s life if you’re worrying about how you look in your scrubs. What can we expect to see from you in the next 5 years? Well, hopefully I’m still doing “Code Black,” because I love it and everyone involved in the show so much. But I’m dying to do a multi cam comedy during my hiatus. I’m a huge fan of Big Bang Theory and that style of show.
