Same Hometown Owners, Same Great Food!

f you haven’t heard of Aunt D’s Diner, then you might not be a longtime resident of Martin County. So, if you want to be considered a local, and/or you simply want to enjoy a delicious, satisfying breakfast or lunch, then you should probably stop in to Aunt D’s Diner for a bite. Aunt D’s was a staple for both locals and visitors in Jensen Beach for years before having to relocate to their new location in Stuart. Dee’s late sister, Michelle (a/k/a “Mushy”), encouraged Dee to continue owning and operating the restaurant and “keep going”; and so, Dee and her devoted husband, Gerry, brought their same great, fresh homemade recipes, along with their beloved chefs and waitstaff, to Ocean Boulevard. Sadly, Mushy died just two weeks before the restaurant’s re-opening, and her 50th birthday. A photo of Mushy and Dee smiling brightly together hangs high on the wall next to the restaurant’s charming coffee bar, overlooking the entire interior dining room. Dee explains, “She’s the main reason we keep going. She’s inspiration for us and for everyone on staff... they’re our family.”

It feels like a hometown Florida spot at Aunt D’s, with light blue walls featuring paintings of marine life (done by a Jensen Beach artist and available for purchase), the Beach Boys playing lightly from a stereo, plenty of natural light shining in through the large windows, a covered outdoor patio seating area, and, naturally, attentive and pleasant service by locals who know the menu and are happy to give you a recommendation. In fact, I asked our server for a recommendation, and she cheerfully gave me a few items to consider. I heartily enjoyed the choice I made, but I must tell you that Aunt D’s Breakfast Combo is not for those with a weak appetite. If you’re hungry, then this one is for you! Or, if you’re feeling indecisive, then this dish is for you too. The combo checks off every box — savory, salty, and sweet — so you don’t have to choose one thing over another, and I guarantee if you order it that you’ll leave with a full stomach. It comes with 2 eggs (any style), choice of meat (ham, bacon, or sausage), choice of home fries, hash browns, or grits, and choice of 2 pancakes or French toast. If you have a lighter appetite for breakfast, then Aunt D’s menu has numerous other options, including popular favorites like 3-egg omelettes, breakfast sandwiches and bagels, and additional customizable combo plates. I selected over easy eggs with bacon, home fries, and 2 blueberry pancakes for my Aunt D’s Breakfast Combo. For an extra tasty bite, I sopped up the broken yolks of my precisely-cooked over easy eggs with the plentiful home fries — salty, velvety, and piquant. The home fries themselves are tender cuts of
