The registrar’s office conducts regular business hours, conducts a four-month canvas of voters within town, conducts a voter registration session at the local high school, hires and trains poll workers for primaries, referendums and elections; attends state conferences to become informed of changes in election laws, provides voter registration lists to candidates, holds special sessions in October at the Town Hall and prepares a financial budget for each fiscal year.

Vital statistics—marriages, births and deaths—are recorded in the vital records system. The office issues game licenses, dog licenses, liquor permits and assumed trade name certificates. It also processes notary public appointments. Locally-held state and municipal primaries and elections are processed by the town clerk. Machine ballots, absentee ballots, campaign finance returns and voter certificates are within the town clerk’s jurisdiction. Veterans’ discharges for tax exemption purposes are filed at this office as well. Copies of documents are available at the town clerk’s office.

It also processes notary public appointments. Absentee ballots, campaign finance returns and voter certificates are within the town clerk’s jurisdiction. Veterans’ discharges for tax exemption purposes are filed at this office as well. Copies of documents are available from the town clerk, who administers oaths under the Seal of the Town of Prospect.
