PROJECT CONCEPT MS GRADUATE PROJECT A commercial building will have a portion of its tenant space repurposed as a fabrication lab to support startup companies comprised of crafters. The suite features a makerspace for fledgling companies that craft products such as decorative household items, jewelry and accessories, and custom printed objects. Included in the project is a coworking office space for the crafters to conduct the business of making and selling products. Fabworks will offer a business consultant and expert craftsperson to advise members through the process of starting their businesses. Additionally, a retail component would be included in this project. A showroom would serve as display space and testing area for the startups to introduce their products to market. Fabworks is hosted by a redeveloped building at 1401 Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. The building is a part of a property redevelopment project named Boundary. Boundary is a three-building campus to be situated on Peachtree and 17th Streets in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. Property management group, Parkside Partners acquired neighboring properties located at 1389, 1401 and 1409 Peachtree Street.

This scheme is one of several iterations that begins to plan the layout of spaces within Fabworks suite. The plan utilizes approximately 32,000 square feet of tenant space within the building. This scheme takes advantage of the 22’ double ceiling height of level one. A mezzanine positioned just beyond the reception area creates visual interest, encouraging the occupant’s eyes to look upward. The mezzanine features a classroom that will accommodate more than 10 people. The mezzanine creates an area beneath that offers users the comfort of human scaled space and ability to view their surroundings. The mezzanine’s attached landing and staircase lead users up to level two which houses the coworking office. The open plan of the office is designed to encourage collaboration and networking of the coworking members. For this scheme, the major circulation path takes a loop configuration providing occupants with an efficient avenue to navigate the second floor.

LEVEL 1 SHOWROOM ELEVATION

This drawing represents the retail component of this project in the way of a showroom. This space is where members display the products they’ve made. Part of the exhibit is to give visitors an idea of the making process by displaying the plywood panels from which some of the products were cut. Visitors and customers can come in browse, try out and purchase the products so the showroom serves as a testing area for the members to introduce their items to market. SHOWROOM ELEVATION

Cafe area is adjacent to lobby and conference room for quick access to food and drink during an events. The 450 sq foot conference room accomodates over 10 people; sitting or standing.

the waiting area becomes additional seating space during special events. The conference room has glass pivot doors that opens the entire room to the reception and cafe areas to allow Girls Inc. to host member events.

Lounge chairs and end tables require less effort to move and stow away allowing occupants to gain floor space for other uses.

EVENT SPACE As a non-profit organization, it is critical for Girls Inc. to host ceremonies and special events to promote their organization and raise funds to support their mission. Incorporating space for events is important to the design as the office is the headquarters for Girls Inc.

The design integrates the music, art and cuisine of Belfast to create a cultural experience that unfolds for guests as they move through space. Public zones seamlessly flow from one area to another inviting guests to engage one another and connect with their surroundings. Expressive murals and paintings evoke the energy of the street art scene while sculptural fixtures and furnishings honor Belfast’s heritage of craftsmanship. DESIGN CONCEPT

SOUTHERN CHARM Inspired by the modest, timeless regional architecture of the South, the interior design of the TMH Southwood clinic draws from the local heritage of the past and multi-cultural offerings of the present. Natural materials in muted shades of smoky blue, mossy green and doughy beige conjure images of rolling hills, majestic oaks and calming lakes. The organic hues reference the characteristics of the Southwood community while open sightlines and cozy spaces elicit the welcoming customs of southern style. The centralized reception area acts as a foyer inviting patients into the space where they are attended to in a warm, cheerful atmosphere that is filled with natural daylight entering through classical windows. Uniting the elements of open spaces, natural light and regional architecture creates a warm and friendly environment that embodies southern charm.
