Real race heritage Aaron Abell AARON Abell is one of only 500 people in the world to own one of these Ducati 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition motorcycles. As you can see from the badge pressed into the bike’s triple clamps, (inset photo), Aaron’s bike was number 333 off the production line and is in every respect a race bike. This bike was built by Ducati to mark Australian Troy Bayliss’ 2008 World Superbike Championship and is incredibly close in specification to the bike he rode. This is no race replica - it’s an actual race bike. Starting at the powerplant, it’s officially the most powerful production twin-cylinder motorcycle ever built. The bike comes with a race kit that includes Ducati’s race-spec traction control system, a 102dB carbon fibre Termignoni slip-on muffler and a race-spec ECU. With these mods attached, which is the guise in which you see Aaron’s bike here, the 1200cc powerplant produces more than 190 horsepower. That figure is even more staggering when you consider the bike weighs just over 160kg. Its light weight is due in part to the plethora of carbon-fibre parts littered around the bike, right down to the cover for the dry clutch. The bike is suspended by exotic Ohlins suspension front and rear and is brought back from warp speed by Brembo brakes. Cosmetically, it is painted in the colours of the Australian flag and bears Troy Bayliss’ race number. Owners also receive a commemorative desk-top plague with the engraved signatures of Ducati chief executive Gabriele Del Torchio and triple World Superbike champion, Troy Bayliss.
