Interview with Denise Martin (Cont.)

After several years of providing security services to various clients, Night Hawk was awarded its first contract with Durham County in July 2017.

Do you feel like doing business with the county impacted your business in a positive way? If so, how?

Doing business with Durham County has impacted and continues to impact my business in a positive way. My business relationship with Durham County has enabled Night Hawk to grow and expand its scope of security services throughout the county, obtain valuable years of experience working with local government officials, establish meaningful business relationships, and work to protect the Citizens and Durham County employees every day.

What advice would you give others, in your industry, who are interested in working with the county?

The advice that I’d give to companies in this industry who are interested in working with Durham County would be to fully comprehend your contractual obligations and scope of work, be a good listener, respond promptly, be attentive to detail, be willing to accept responsibility and the challenges as all this will help you grow and be successful.

What do you like most about living (if applicable) or working in Durham County?

I like most about working in Durham County is the responsiveness and care that I have witnessed firsthand that the County’s leaders and staff have toward the citizens of Durham County. Every security decision or request of security services is made with the decisionmakers asking whether this would ensure the safety of its citizens? Would this be a hardship on anyone? Would this be a hinderance to anyone getting to us or receiving services? From the dignitaries to the homeless, all are important. Additionally, I like that Durham County understands the plight of underutilized, minority-women business enterprises (MWBE)- oftentimes not having access to readily available capital, the importance of a shorter invoicing and payment schedule, the need for mentorship and the sharing of in-house training resources that are mutually beneficial, i.e., crisis intervention training or CPR, etc.

Look!

Have you heard? MWBE has a new look. Inspired from the DCo logo, we have added the recognizable blue and green color way.

This logo will now be seen on our newsletter, website, flyers and promotional items.

We hope that the new colors and logo continue to create interest in our program and the business opportunities we have at the county.

We are excited about the change and look forward to sharing our new promotional items with you at our next event!
