Withthegenerous support of MVYouth,MV Community Serviceslaunched aPilot Programtofunda capital project that supportedthelicensureof onenew Family Child Care(FCC) programinour community FCCprogramsareacritical part of theearly education andcaresystem,servingchildrenbetweentheagesof 0 - 5,insmall groups appropriatefor their development,inneighborhoodswherefamilieslive Our Pilot Project createdsix new slotsfor workingfamiliesinneed of early educationand carefor their youngchildren

Buildingonthesuccessof our Pilot Project,wewill roll out theFamily ChildCare Capital NeedsProject in2023! Over thenext fiveyears,our goal istolicensenine additional programs,creating54 new slots Theavailability of high-quality early educationand careoptionswill haveastabilizingeffect onchildrenandfamiliesin our community andsupport employersinachievingandmaintainingadequate staffinglevels.A 2019 report by consultant Sally SharpeLehman identifieda critical needtoincreaseaccessto high-quality,affordableearly educationand careontheIsland Werecognizethat wemust developnew andinnovative approachestoaddresstheunmet demand

The450,000 ExpansionGrant will provideprospectiveProviderswiththecapital neededtolicensetheir homes It isalsoimportant for Family Child CareProviders tohaveaccesstomeaningful opportunitiesfor professional development and to connect andcollaboratewithother Providers.Wearecommittedtocreatinga comprehensivesystemof supports,utilizingcommunity partnershipsto enhance our efforts Thisproject buildsonthestrengthsthat exist withinour early childhoodsystem,allowingusto buildaneffectiveworkforceand createnew opportunitiesfor workingfamilies!
