The MVS Education Worth investing now for lifelong benefits

Why MVS?

When considering MVS, you will learn that our approach to education is unique. While MVS insists on high academic standards, supported by the top ACT and SAT scores in the area, we recognize that students learn best by doing, experiencing, and creating. Whether your child is in early childhood, upper school, or somewhere in between, MVS provides the necessary tools for your student to become a self-sustaining learner and compassionate global citizen. It happens daily at MVS — inside and out of the classroom, in conversations with teachers and peers, and by traveling around Dayton and to other countries. It all starts with a rigorous curriculum enhanced with some very special components.

Happiness and Vitality It’s a bounce in her step, a smile on his face, the focus in the classroom - the energy students experience at MVS is contagious. People say it’s a feeling you get when you walk around campus that separates MVS from other schools. You can see the joy in learning.

Getting Better Answers

MVS students crave challenge and our master teachers lead them to a deeper level of learning. Whether exploring topics through TED talks or engaging in group discussions, students of all ages think beyond the textbook. MVS creates a safe place to ask questions and the students pride themselves on learning from each other.

Transformative Experiences It happens daily. In small classes and with freedom from standardized testing, students feel safe to engage and be themselves. Your child is known in this nurturing environment. Introverted and extroverted alike— students find their voices, learn by doing, and become empowered to take chances again and again.

Individualized College Counseling

100%

of our seniors matriculate to the nation’s top colleges. Through all four years of high school, our students take time to investigate different colleges to find the best fit for them. College counseling begins in 9th and 10th grades with group and individual meetings with students and parents. The thorough process culminates with frequent individual and family meetings and weekly college counseling classes led by our college counselor during junior and senior years.

Immersion Method Learning is rooted in direct experience, which leads to engagement and the discovery of passion. Through trips abroad, focused projects on campus, and everything in between, the unique MVS Immersion Method is the signature engine that drives our school. In each division, students and teachers embrace the Immersion Method through four driving forces: • Explore - They mentally, physically, and virtually expand their collective experience to develop big ideas. • Connect - They link to one another’s background, perspective, and goals to collaborate learning. • Share - They design, create, build, publish, and present together. • Reflect - They frequently step away from everyday habits to understand the why, how, and what if of the learning process.

Social & Emo Learning Education is a top priority for MVS parents and they recognize that MVS is a worthwhile investment in their children’s future. MVS parents appreciate that their children will be exposed to interesting and intelligent people with new ideas and different approaches. Our parents help cultivate our community of support and celebration.

Diversity Matters

At MVS, we enhance students’ interpersonal skills and nurture their overall well-being. We do this through Social and Emotional Learning, teaching our students to understand and manage their emotions, build healthy and long-lasting relationships, show empathy, and become more self-aware.

Passionate Parents With a population 40% diverse in multiple ways, MVS prides itself on valuing different viewpoints, celebrating all cultures, and learning from one another. It happens organically at MVS because it is a priority with our families and faculty and it sustains our school culture of respecting all individuals.

Outdoor Education

The Zorniger Environmental Laboratory allows students to explore how seeds, plants, and food nourish us on many levels. The greenhouse and gardens have become a think-tank where students can plan, cultivate, and harvest their own gardens and grow ideas for a more sustainable future. Lower school students also enjoy the Outdoor Exploration Center, where they spend half of their science classes, investigating the pond and waterfall, woods, bird blind, and more.

The sax player in the jazz band might also be a member of the Model UN team and a first-time participant in a cross-country race. Advisors guide each student to try new clubs, engage in community service, and become a leader. Whether it’s Robotics, Chess Club, Improv, or Power of the Pen, there are always plenty of

The MVS ambience has challenged my son into becoming a more independent thinker. He is very motivated into doing things, keeping up with his assignments, reaching out to teachers and students. MVS is providing him with the right resources to prepare him for a proactive future. He has goals, he wants to go places. MVS has become a part of his path; being in the right environment is key for his future achievements in life.

Before our son went to college, he thought everyone learned what he learned in high school. He was so much more prepared than his college friends. Now he truly grasps the value of his Miami Valley School education.

Our daughter comes home every day telling us how much she loves MVS. When we said the school must have some problems, she replied, the only problem is that you didn’t send me here four years ago. She has adjusted so well. We are very thankful for that. It really says a lot about your school. -Margaret and Michael Monto, Parent ‘17

Inclusive Athletics

Our no-cut policy encourages all MVS students to play on a team. Students often discover a skill or interest in a sport simply because they had the opportunity to participate. The MVS athletic program thrives on helping students learn about drive, competition, and teamwork. School spirit starts early when lower and middle school students focus on skill development and participation in competitive athletics. Many of our upper school scholar athletes go on to play for division I, II, and III colleges.

Because we believe that fine arts, performing arts, and music are essential to a well-rounded thinker, MVS offers many artistic choices for all ages. Our galleries are curated regularly to display current projects. Musical performances are enjoyed throughout the year, highlighting groups such as a capella choirs, string and jazz ensembles, and choruses. Theatrical productions thrive at every level and all students are encouraged to experience the MVS stage.

Honoring the Arts

Cultural Exploration

World language education begins at our early childhood school and Mandarin, Spanish, and French classes are just the beginning of the cultural discussion. International students, and exchange programs with Asia and Central and South America bring the outside world to MVS. International travel during Immersion opens the world to our students, exposing them to the Amazon rainforest, coral reefs, and small African villages. Our diverse student body honors different traditions and languages through events such as Indian dance performances, cultural heritage days, and world language feasts.
