Snow Removal

Page 1

Dear Home Owner: We are writing today to make sure all of our customers are aware that with the above average snowfall we have received this year, measures need to be taken to ensure that your property stays dry! It has been our experience that most basement water issues have occurred due to improper final landscape grading on new lots. Considering most new construction will have ground settlement around the foundation, extra care needs to be taken to ensure that spring runoff is moving away from your home, not into your foundation. Especially if you have purchased a home and the final landscape grade was not completed before the ground froze last fall. We strongly recommend that you remove any excess amounts of snow close to the foundation and make sure that there is proper drainage for the snow melting to move through your lot. Also please be sure that your downspouts are free of ice and debris and that the extensions are in place to keep the water as far from the house as possible. It is a very good idea to check over your sump pump hose(if your home has one) and make sure that it is free of ice and debris and is able to pump water freely away from your house. We truly feel that a little prevention and extra care will help keep your property safe this year.

Thank you. Musgrave Agencies Ltd.
