TRUST THROUGH

TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVE

The effectiveness of a law enforcement agency and its officers depends enormously on the relationship it forges with the community it serves. Community-police relationships, like all relationships, must be based on mutual trust and respect in order to thrive. Seasoned law enforcement personnel know that trust and respect are rooted in transparency and accountability, and that is why we are excited to announce the Trust Through Transparency initiative. The Lake Worth Police Department takes a proactive role in promoting agency transparency and officer integrity by assessing community-police interactions, providing valuable employee inservice training, and maintaining open lines of public communication.

In our Trust Through Transparency initiative, we focus on the following areas:

• Internal strategies that promote fair and impartial policing

• Collection, analysis, and publication of police-citizen contact data

• Publication of department policies and procedures

• Efficient and convenient avenues for citizens to make comments, complaints and inquiries

The Lake Worth Police Department is committed to the Trust Through Transparency Initiative. As a demonstration of our commitment, we created a brand-new section on our website that is dedicated to making information available to you - our community. The following documents are currently available at www.lakeworthtx.org/police under the Trust Through Transparency tab:

• Annual Reports i.e. Racial Profiling Reports, Department Reports, etc.

• Complete Policy and Procedures Manual

• Commendation and Complaint Forms and Procedures

In addition to our website, you can also find valuable information and real-time updates on LWPD’s social media accounts. We are active on: Twitter (@lakeworthpd), Instagram (@ lakeworthpolice), YouTube, Facebook and NextDoor. You can also follow the hashtag #lakeworthpd on all platforms.

Assessing Attitudes and Perceptions of Homelessness

The City of Lake Worth and the Lake Worth Police Department have partnered with Texas Christian University’s Criminal Justice Department to examine and develop data driven policies that will improve the way homelessness is managed in our community. We understand that homelessness is a complex issue and comes with no quick or easy solution. However, we believe it is an issue worthy of addressing.

The concern for our community’s homeless population transcends all barriers and the Lake Worth Police Department is committed to actively searching for equitable long-term solutions. Over the next 18-24 months, the City of Lake Worth and the Lake Worth Police Department will be working with partners from across Tarrant County to understand the issue and find creative solutions to improve it, but we also need your help!

There are two survey options: 1) Citizen and Visitor Survey, and 2) Business Survey. The citizen and visitor survey is intended for those who live and regularly visit Lake Worth. The business survey is intended for those who either own a business in Lake Worth or who work in Lake Worth.

The surveys take about 15-20 minutes to complete and can be reached by scanning the QR codes (above) with your mobile phone.
