Junior Brian Boland threw for 288 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to senior Miles Austin to lead Monmouth to a 45-14 win over Sacred Heart. Austin broke his own school records with 235 receiving yards and four TD receptions in the game. After SHU opened the game with a touchdown, Monmouth ran off 45 straight points, starting with a Boland-to-Miles 20-yard TD strike with 6:29 left in the first quarter. The Pioneers failed to move the ball on their next possession and had to punt at midfield. The snap sailed over the head of SHU's punter and Monmouth took over possession at the Pioneers' 19-yard line. Four plays later, Boland connected with Austin from five yards out. Monmouth made it 21-7 with 8:22 left in the first half when Boland hit Austin for a 59-yard TD pass. Another miscued snap on a SHU punt, with 1:31 remaining in the second quarter, resulted in a snap through the end zone for a Monmouth safety, putting the Hawks up 23-7. A 38-yard field goal by sophomore Fred Weingart gave Monmouth a 26-7 lead at the intermission. Sacred Heart received the opening kickoff in the second half, but junior Mike Castellano intercepted a pass on the first play from scrimmage, giving the Hawks the ball at the SHU 46-yard line. Two plays later, Boland and Austin completed their fourth TD hookup, this one for 38 yards to give Monmouth a 33-7 advantage. The third bad snap on a punt for the Pionerrs resulted in another Monmouth safety, tying an NCAA I-AA record for safeties in a season with five. The record-setting seasons continued for senior Miles Austin and junior Brian Boland as the duo led Monmouth to a 36-7 win over Stony Brook in the two teams' NEC opener in Stony Brook. Monmouth jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on its first possession of the game, 4:26 into the contest, as junior Leonard Brice dashed in from six yards out and sophomore Fred Weingart converted on the extra point. After forcing a Stony Brook punt, the Hawks doubled their lead as junior Walter Carter scored on a 2-yard run and Weingart added an extra point with 5:06 left in the opening act. Monmouth extended its lead early in the second quarter when Boland connected with Austin for a 15yard TD pass. Weingart's PAT was good and the Blue and White led 21-0 at the break. The Seawolves' lone score came on a 59-yard pass from Josh Dudash to Josh Anderson. Matt Weeks' extra point made it 21-7 at the 9:08 mark in the third quarter. The Hawks added two more touchdowns as Boland hooked up with senior Brendan Kennedy on a 21-yard score and Austin blocked a punt and returned it for a TD to put the game out of reach. Boland went 28-of-40 for 296 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Boland tied a school record with his 28 completions in the game. He also became the first Monmouth quarterback to log 1,000 passing yards in the first four games of the season as his tally on the year ballooned to 1,189. Austin caught eight passes for 107 yards and totaled a pair of touchdowns. The senior also rushed five times for 45 yards. Austin ran his school-record string of consecutive 100-yard receiving games to five. It also ran his school record career total of 100-yard receiving games to 11.

Monmouth committed six costly turnovers in a 26-20 loss to Wagner in NEC action at Kessler Field. Wagner's ball-hawking defense sported five different players with interceptions on the afternoon as junior Brian Boland, who entered the contest as the No. 7 rated quarterback in Division I-AA completed just 16-of-38 passes for 210 yards and five interceptions. Boland also threw two touchdowns on the afternoon to tie the MU single-season record with 18 on the year. Monmouth pounced on Wagner early with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. The Hawks broke the scoring seal 9:19 into the first quarter as Boland hit senior Miles Austin for a 23-yard TD pass to complete an 8-play, 82-yard drive. Monmouth also scored on its second drive as junior Leonard Brice scored on a 12-yard run to cap a 7-play, 65-yard drive. Wagner scored its first touchdown as John Sciarra hit Joseph Kinard for a 2-yard TD pass, ending a 12-play, 87-yard drive. The Seahawks' PAT kick was blocked by senior Rob Lomoriello as the lead was trimmed to 14-6 with 12:19 showing on the first-half clock. The Seahawks clipped the lead to 14-9 with a 26-yard field goal by Piotr Czech with 6:01 left in the half. On the ensuing drive, the Hawks squandered a scoring opportunity. Boland set an MU record for the longest rush by a quarterback with a 62-yard run to the Wagner 18yard line. Two plays later, Boland threw the first of five interceptions in the game as Chris Ferrara hauled the ball in at the Wagner 12-yard line. The Seahawks marched 88 yards and scored on a 25-yard pass from Sciarra to Shaun Grover to take a 16-14 lead at the half. The Seahawks opened the second half scoring as Czech hit a 18-yard field goal and Sciarra hit Mike Malik on a 31-yard TD pass on 4th-and-15 to take a 26-14 lead.
