Minister Kemani Wadud July 19, 1972- March 6, 2012 Funeral services were held for Minister Kemani Baraka Wadud, on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in Philadelphia. Believers from around the country joined together to walk the last mile with this well loved and widely known Brother. Minister Kemani’s wife, Sister Janine Ali Wadud, gave birth to their son , Wali Ibn Kemani, just 3 days before his departure. Brother Kemani was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Ronnie and Barbara Maddox. Most of his early life was spent in many different states and countries since he was a “Navy brat” and traveled with his family. He loved to draw as a young man. Brother Kemani graduated from Largo High School in 1990 where he played the trumpet in the band and was a member of the ROTC. He went on to receive his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from college, Brother Kemani became a member of the Nation of Islam. In 2006, he began attending Temple Meetings with Min. Samuel Ramadan. And on August 6, 2006, Minister Ramadan appointed Brother Kemani to be Lieutenant. Now Capt., Bro. Ronnie Ramadan recalls how Bro. Kemani taught him how to check people has they came into the Temple, “He was a very humble brother. He was real patience with me. He was very happy to teach me. He’d show me by checking me. Then I would practice what he taught me by checking him.” Brother Kemani spent most of his
time encouraging others to eat right and to be a good Muslim (One who submits to the will of Allah (God). He studied hard and became a Minister to the followers of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad (peace be upon him) and frequently held meetings in the DC area. Minister Kemani wrote many articles, which were published in this Muhammad Speaks Newspaper. He earned the title of TOP SALESMAN three years in a row and received many awards for it. He worked for the PG County Clerk’s Office for many years before retiring early due to disablity. Always one to smile, he will always be remember for his kind heart. Minister Kemani was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie A. Maddox. To preserve, perpetuate and rejoice his memory are his dear wife, Sister Janine Ali Wadud, his son Wali Ibn Kemani, his Mother Barbara Maddox, his sister Kemile Palmer, his niece and two nephews, his grandmother, Louise A. Stoddard, five aunts, nine uncles and a whole Nation of Muslim Brothers and Sisters who loved him. Brother Charles X (Morris) of Chicago, IL wrote on Facebook: “He was a beautiful brother, who loved Messenger Elijah Muhammad's teaching...He was genuinely one of the nicest Muslims I've ever had the pleasure of knowning. May Allah in the person of Master Fard Muhammad be please with Bro. Kemani. I am one who will greatly miss this brother.”
