Manhattan Aquatic Center - Manhattan Kansas

Providing a new asset to a community that recently has lost its only aquatic center, a new aquatic center located for the citizenry of Manhattan, Kansas, in its downtown was devised. For my proposal, the usage of an undulating Copper OKATECH Glass facade created opportunities for interior elements like a rock wall that follows the same form or the large pool hall roof, which is optimized for noise reduction. While seemingly complex, the structure is relatively simple as the facade is freestanding, and a concrete shell supports the interior floor plates. The center features amenities such as an Olympic-size swimming pool, a kiddie pool, a water slide, a climbing wall, racquetball courts, gym, five rentable spaces for classes/ social events, and offices for the park and recreation department of the City of Manhattan, to name a few.

Memphis Rock-Cut House - Memphis, Tennessee

A class project with the strict restriction of using a large stone mined from the same mines built the pyramids in Egypt (just don’t ask how it got there). With such limited space, making the most out of every square foot was essential; I decided to split the two into separate structures, so there was a distinct differentiation between work and play/sleep zones framing a shaded veranda that overlooks the winding Mississippi.
