For those with a heart for service, the Banner Elk area has three civic organizations dedicated to making a difference in our community through serving others. Guests are welcome to attend meetings of these organizations, all of which are open to accepting new members. Banner Elk Kiwanis Club With a mission of serving the needs of children, the Banner Elk Kiwanis Club meets every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Lees McRae College. Meetings are held in Miller Commons, which is the private dining room adjacent to the MacDonald Student Dining Room. To fill out a membership application, click to www.bannerelkkiwanis. org. Avery County Rotary Club Serving the community through both fundraising and service projects, the Avery County Rotary Club meets at noon on Thursdays at Puerto Nuevo in Banner Elk. For more information about joining rotary club, email bloftis@crossnoreschool.org Kiwanis Young Professionals Bringing together young adults from a variety of vocations for the purpose of serving the community, Kiwanis Club of the Blue Ridge Young Professionals meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Banner Elk Winery.
