DIANE CARNEY Diane Carney is a lifelong, dedicated horsewoman, emphasizing horsemanship in every aspect of her world. Her versatility and indepth knowledge as a grand prix rider, hunter rider, clinician, USHJA certified trainer, event organizer, commentator, course designer, USEF R judge, USEF International Disciplines Committee member and former USHJA Board of Directors member, gives her a well rounded perspective on the industry. She is also President of Athletes For Equity in Sport, Inc. Carney’s horsemanship skills guided her to design the 2016 ASPCA Maclay Finals courses along with the honor of judging the prestigious event with Rachel Kennedy. Commentators and exhibitors alike gave rave reviews on the course design and the judge’s ability to judge the class meticulously. Carney has received the USHJA President’s Distinguished Service Award three times for her involvement in USHJA national programs; first in 2004, for her leadership in forming the USHJA Clinics Program, then in 2007 for her influence and direction of the International Hunter Derby Program, and recently in 2015 for her contribution in Governance. Education The Over the last 40 years, Diane has continued the mission of spreading knowledge and horsemanship through clinics and supporting programs that raise the level of horsemanship for riders, trainers and owners. She organized one of the top clinics in the Chicago area for over 30 years and organized the Gladstone Program at Brookwood Farm in 2014 and 2015. The programs offered exposure to Olympic riders, Olympic veterinarians and other equestrian experts to those riders and trainers desiring the experience. Diane has supported and promoted education wherever she travels and is responsible for providing many clinic opportunities including Equine Affair in Ohio, Equifest of Kansas in Topeka, Scott Alder in Michigan, and Smoke Tree Ranch, Arizona, to name a few. Commentary Carney has also provided educational commentary to live stream productions such as the 2015 and 2019 ASPCA Maclay Finals, the 2015 and 2016 USHJA Children’s/Adult Jumper Championships North Region, the 2015 USHJA Zone 5 Regional Maclay Finals, the 2015 Illinois Hunter Jumper Association Medal Finals, the 2016 Capital Challenge World Championship Hunter Rider Events and the 2016 Chicago Hunter Derby handy round for EQ Sports. In 2019 Carney provided commentary for Franktown Meadows International Hunter Derby along with Traverse City Grand Prixs and the Pennsylvania National Horse Show Grand Prixs, including the Pennsylvania Big Jump. Giving Back Dedicated to giving back to the sport, Diane is currently a member of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Pathway task force and is the USHJA representative on the USEF International Disciplines Committee. She has served in the past as Vice Chair for the Zone 5 Hunter Committee and Chairperson of the USHJA Clinics Program. Diane also participated on the Junior Hunter Task Force and the High Performance Hunter (Hunter Derby) Committees for several years. As part of her committee work, Diane and the zone members established the USHJA Zone 5 College Scholarship. Judge Carney’s judging resume includes the 2016 ASPCA/Maclay Medal Finals, the New England Equitation Championships, WEF, HITS Thermal, Bend Oregon, Blenheim CA, Flintridge and Sonoma, CA; LA Masters, Kentucky Summer, The Ridge at Wellington, the Sunshine Series USHJA $100,000 Hunter Prix, HITS $500,000 Hunter Prix, IEA and IHSA. Her judging opportunities include the USEF Pony Finals

DENIS FLANNELLY BACK TO BASICS: MODERN TECHNIQUES UNDERPINNED BY THE CLASSICAL PRINCIPLES With a duel-Level 3 HSI qualification in both showjumping and dressage, Denis has an unparalleled ability to help his riders master “the bit between the fences”. Adopting a cognitive approach to the fundamental principles of dressage, Denis develops an individual system for each of his clients based on the client’s needs, a thorough use of correct classics, and the individual horse’s ethology. A highly effective communicator, Denis’ method of delivery is clear, simple and focused, ensuring his clients excel in confidence, competence and crucially, in competition. WINNING INSIGHTS: 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE DESIGNING GRAND PRIX TRACKS Denis utilizes his extensive course-designing experience to equip his clients with the knowledge and strategy necessary to overcome the obstacles and challenges of any track. Like his approach to flat work, Denis works meticulously with his clients to strategically plan how the rider will approach each individual fence of a course. By walking the course from a designer’s perspective, Denis imparts his invaluable insights to his clients, helping them to read and prepare for the traps of the course-builder. HOLISTIC MENTORSHIP: REALISING THE CLIENT’S FULL POTENTIAL With an esteemed career as a top international showjumper, Denis understands the mental resilience required to become one of the greats of his game. Having achieved a number of Irish caps at Grand Prix level across Europe, a Nations Cup team selection and multiple national wins over 40 years, Denis now shares his sportsman intellect with his clients by preparing them psychologically with a winning mentality. Passionate about helping his clients to become the very best that they can be, Denis equips his clients with the confidence, skills and drive necessary to push boundaries and achieve their goals.

KEN WHELIHAN Ken Whelihan is a USEF R judge, Grand Prix veteran and a popular teacher and clinician. His accomplishments include producing Zone 1 USEF two-time horse of the year “Tanglewood”, qualifying and competing in 1992 Olympic Selection Trials for Barcelona, and producing dozens of Grand Prix level horses. Ken began his professional career by riding for the late Barney Ward. McLain’s dad was out in front of the then new trend of importing European Showjumpers. He then went on to work for the Lenehan family and world record holder Anthony D’Ambrosio jr. He spent much of his career in Connecticut as a professional at Peter Leone’s Lionshare farm and at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club. He has a systematic approach to bringing along horses with patience and flexibility to make allowances for colder or hotter temperaments. His teaching evolves from years spent receiving guidance from legends including George Morris, Anne Kursinski, Leslie Howard and Peter Leone.

WENDY ARNDT Wendy’s interests and goals are to help create a passion within the student to desire achievement on all levels. To encourage students at all levels to set goals and gain confidence to take on challenges and strive to become better. Rather than pass or fail, work to become a stronger rider. Wendy has ridden competitively since 1970, growing up riding with Ronny Mutch in Connecticut she learned early what it takes to be committed. Horseback riding, training, showing and importing has been a lifelong passion Wendy gained experience and knowledge in Eventing, Show Jumping, Hunters, Equitation and fox hunting growing up. She believes the best riders are well rounded, learning from each discipline. For example, taking the dressage she learned from the Eventing world and incorporating it into her flat work for hunters and jumpers. She has taught clients from all levels, flat work through Grand Prix, with many placings at top levels. She has taught clinics in the USA, Germany, South America, and Bermuda and was a US judge for the young jumper competition in Buenos Aries, SA. She has also taught the Venezuelan young riders summer program for 3 summers. For over 30 years she has owned and operated international education programs through the summer months in the US aka Team IEC boot camp. This has taught riders about all aspects of the horse including grooming, cleaning stalls, showing, cross country, basic medical care, course walking and building, and so much more.
