OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark We live in a time of fear taking control of too many people’s lives. Fear is good, like everything else we experience, only when it aids us in dealing with its causes. When fear controls a person’s outlook and behavior, it soon produces violent responses which, in turn, increase and exaggerate the fear. It becomes a vicious circle. Fear threatens trust, truth, love and understanding. When we lose trust, be it in God, government, society, loved ones or self, the door opens wide for all kinds of violent behavior. More than, “welcome to the human race,” it means, “this is our present time and situation!” If we feel a connection to this, then listening to the readings will be useless for they require trust and the hope trust instills in our lives. We are in control and clear-headed to deal with life’s challenges, threats and hardships. That’s what God’s messengers ever sought to restore people from their fears and losing hope about the future. Isaiah (1st reading) seeks to alleviate the people’s feeling of “forsaken”, whose lives are “desolate.” He tells them (us) what God will do and all of it is wonderful, a full restoration to worthwhile lives blessed with all the life-giving treasures we thoroughly enjoy when we experience them by our choosing to live and share them with each other! Sounds wonderful! It begins with trust. God does not lie! St. Paul (2nd reading) reminds us of these blessings and how they serve the good of all, that each one of us has our own special gift that is a part of the whole, Who is God and Love Itself! Sharing my gift is important for this truth to be fulfilled. Choose. John (Gospel) tells the dynamic story of Jesus reveling Himself by and act of kindness to save a young couple from embarrassment and people’s displeasure. He changes water into excellent wine. Like them, once we’ve experienced a God moment or the presence of God in our lives, “His disciples began to believe in Him.” Thus, it begins for each person of faith, usually in a simple, unexpected way, which is God’s way into our hearts! Do I believe?

HOME BLESSING

Designate a leader for the following prayer: Lord, Bless this house and all who inhabit it. May we be blessed with good health, goodness of heart, gentleness, and the keeping of your law of love. We give thanks to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. (If Holy Water is available bless each room in your home.) QUOTE

LIFE

Discovering vocation does not mean scrambling toward some prize just beyond my reach but accepting the treasure of true self I already possess. Vocation does not come from a voice "out there" calling me to be something I am not. It comes from a voice "in here" calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God. —Thomas Merton RESPECT LIFE Pray that we fully recognize in the unborn child our brother, our

sister, and we recommit ourselves to care for them. Scripture Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.” - Genesis 4:8-10 -RELIGIOUS ED Introducing FAMILY-NITE, the last Thursday of every month where parents join their children in class. STVDP FINANCIAL REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER Receipts: Parish offerings $5,911.80, a memorial of $400 for a total of $6,311.80 Parish offerings include two donations at the beginning and end of December plus a donation by the Servite Secular Order. Expenses: Rent $1,720, Travel $115.77, US Bank Fees, $36 office expense $15 for a total of $1,886.77. In recognition of the birth of the Christ Child, the generous support for SVdP is over whelming. We are truly grateful and treasure each donation no matter the size. The poor we serve are the benefactors.
