About MSME-Development Institute, Mumbai. MSME – Development Institute, Mumbai is the field Institute of Office of Development Commissioner (MSME), New Delhi located in the State Capital Mumbai, having its jurisdiction over 25 districts of Maharashtra. The Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME), New Delhi is formulating national level policies and schemes for promotion and development of MSMEs. MSME-DI, Mumbai is monitoring the progress of the policies & schemes in the state. The National Manufacturing competitiveness programme (NMCP) and its components like Capacity Building, Technology upgradation, Quality Management Standards, Quality Technology Tools, Market Development Assistance have a major role in promoting MSME sector. There are sixty no. of clusters in the state which have taken benefit of MSE – Cluster Development Scheme. Every year large number of MSE units are participating in the International Trade Fairs held in different countries and promoting trade abroad. The local and international exhibition is a big source of attraction to MSEs. This Institute is also propagating schemes like Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme for Technology Upgradation and Credit Guarantee Trust for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the forums of Industries Associations/Chamber of Commerce/Federations. MSME-DI, Mumbai is also engaged in collection and compilation of Statistical and Economic information pertaining to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and also organizes Skill Development Programmes so as to motivate educated unemployed youths to go for selfemployment and generate employment by upgrading their skills to enhance employability prospects. With the announcement of Public Procurement Policy 2012, the Institute is playing vital role in providing opportunities to both PSUs/Govt. Departments and Micro & Small Enterprises to exchange business opportunities. The events like NVDP facilitate PSUs/Govt. Departments to identify capable MSEs and meet mandatory provisions in the policy of 20% procurement from MSEs. MSME – DI, Mumbai has been organizing State Level Vendor Development Programmes in various districts of Maharashtra wherein Public Sector Undertakings & Govt. Departments express their requirements and publicize their vendor registration procedure to the participating MSEs.
