On The Mount

Over spring break a group of Mounties traveled to Mississippi for the Mount’s annual service trip. Students gave presentations at the Sister Thea Bowman School on nutrition and bullying. During their stay they worked building gardens in a poverty-stricken trailer park community. The gardens were used to plant vegetables to support families within the community. ARTS

8 Acadram’s 2013 production of Denise Deegan’s Daisy Pulls It Off parodied a British boarding school novel of the 1920s. Though the play is set in another country and time period, it clearly parallels the Mount experience with its high-achieving scholarship student Daisy Meredith. The cast and audience were able to easily connect with the exuberance, passions, and enthusiasm of the Grangewood girls. Produced and directed by Ms. Jean Korey, the show ran in March. Gina Nicoletti ’13 and Morgan Digney ’13 stage-managed the show. The 13-member cast featured, Grace Lynch ’13, Devin McGrath ’13 and Cassidy Peikin ’13. Christine Sedlack ’15 played Daisy. Open to all Philadelphia area public, private and parochial schools. Maddie Wescott ’13 placed second with her graphic design of female rowers racing on the Schuylkill River. Kara Wilson ’13 placed third with her painting of a crew team racing toward the Columbia Railroad Bridge. Each year the Spring Art Show features those seniors who have enrolled for four years of art and who have been a vital part of the visual arts. The student work is showcased to give the school and the broader community the opportunity to experience the art program and all its successes. Pictured Right (l-r): Kara Wilson ’13,

Meghan Mutzel ’13, Olivia Calamia ’13, Alison Waters ’13 and Kaitlyn McKeon ’13. 12 On April 30 and May 1, over 100 Mounties participated in the annual Spring Concert. This year’s concert, entitled, “The Academy Rocks,” featured the MSJA Orchestra, Glee Club, Chorus, Handbell Choir, and Music Scholars performing arrangements of rock, pop and jazz tunes. Audiences both nights clapped and sang along as the performers rocked the Mount! The concert was led by music faculty members Mr. Don Holdren and Mr. Bill Whitaker. Ms. Marybeth Competelli coordinated the technical aspects of the show as moderator of the Stage Crew. Pictured Right: Mount Chorus singing during the 2013 Spring Concert.
