- Sew In Style team Lily Haslam and Molly Kenworthy

Sew in Style is a collaboration between MSc Fashion Management and Year 3 BA Fashion Design students at the University of Lincoln.

As part of our MSc fashion management programme our module ‘Fashion Buying and Merchandising’ tasked us with the responsibility of promoting the exhibition for BA Fashion Design. As a team of 15 we have collaboratively worked with the year 3 students to use a variety of digital and non-digital platforms to promote them as individual and the exhibition. A lot of hard work has been put in by the postgraduate team and we hope everyone is pleased with the outcome !

Tara's Celtic and Japanese influenced streetwear for A/W.

This comfortable streetwear has prints inspired by stories of Celtic mythology with hints of Japanese culture Tara's own Celtic heritage has widely influenced their designs, hearing stories like that of Dullahan, and from the Book of Invasions, have all influenced the cuts and prints we see here. Noticing the importance of the Sea in Celtic mythology, there is representation of its presences in the designs.

Respect, Elegance and Liberation

Based on women's movements throughout history, Caitlin's designs look at the imagery in historical women's campaigns like the Suffragettes and the Sex Wars

Comprised with their manufacturing skills, and extensive research, sophisticated and tailored designs have been made.

Shpresa's Mad Hatter Tea Party

Inspired by a personal incident, Shpresa's designs imitate the feelings and sensations of head injuries. High necks, along with bold colours represent the feelings of 'madness' and loosing sanity and are furthered by the creation of illusions in Shpresa's designs Looking at the symptoms of head injuries and how they can be reflected in fashion, Shpresa aims to offer an insight into those feelings as well as being an outlet for anyone suffering with those symptoms.

Poppy's Sailing Expedition

Loosely based on Poppy's grandfathers experience, the designs are comprised of two halves; 'setting sail' and 'staying afloat'. The former being centred around suitable sailing garments and the latter focusing on inflatable clothing, the designs look at the diverse way clothing can be used.

The beauty found in the darkness of grieving

Expressing fashion through the viewpoint of loss, Zara's designs focus on Japanese culture and the interpretations of grief through symbolism. Looking at four aspects; the great wave of Kanagawa, cherry blossom, lanterns and the red spider lily, the beauty found in the darkness of grieving symbolises the transitioning of grief and death.

What a load of shit

Based on Grace's experience, the designs resembles upcycling 'trash fashion' to showcase the beauty that can be found in items often thrown away, and overlooked. With a strong ethos of recycling and second hand, these designs represent the importance of consciously consuming, and that there can be value found in any object to create a work of art.

How are you doing today?

Based on a personal experience, Emilys' designs resemble that of the human body, as well as the tribulations about eating and its physical impact. Being a representation of their struggle with eating, the designs show the mindset someone goes through when suffering from that experience.

Rachel's Old School Arcades

Inspired by British old-school arcades and the story of a boy who's inspiration comes from Austin Powers, the designs are influenced by arcade winnings and the joys of being a young child in this setting.
