Introduction

Passionate fans sporting their team’s gear fill the stadium. The scent of french-fries and hot-dogs fill the stands. The fans from the two different teams try to out-cheer the other team’s fans. The game of baseball has always been known for the hot dogs and the home runs, but there is much more to the sport. Baseball is made up of players who are all important to the team, the pitcher, the batter, and the infielders are some of the most important players on the team

Pitchers Having trouble getting the baseball to the batter with enough speed? Lift your leg. It give your more momentum. Is your game of baseball too boring? Is the batter hitting all of the balls? Create a pitcher’s mound, get some dirt

Batters Does your opposing team know exactly what you are going to do? Shake things up, bunt the ball, it is a technique that isn’t that hard and will confuse the opposing team. Still not working? Try to get the pitcher to pitch “balls”, get a walk, it is simple and easy.

Infielders Infielders: DO you have someone on your team that is left handed? Put them as shortstop. It will be really nice to have someone who can get the ball to the pitcher quickly without trying to get ready with their left hand.

Conclusion All of the positions, from the batter and pitcher to the infielders are all equally important to the game that we all know so well today. Just imagine what baseball would be like if we didn’t have infielders or a batters? It just wouldn’t be the same. All of these players add up to make an amazing game. Baseball is America’s pass-time and many Americans love it. Works Cited B, Coach. "Pitcher's Guide to Leg Mechanics." Active.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 5 Mar. 2014. "Base on Balls." Wikipedia. The population of Sumatran tigers in “2000 was around 40”; now it is “less than 400”. This is a big improvement (“Overview”). Nevertheless, to the tigers, it’s a mere handful, and with poaching still as high as it has ever been, they still need our help. Sumatran tigers have many unique characteristics, and with your help, this endangered species can return to thrive in the face of its ever increasing threats.

The Sumatran tigers live in Sumatra, (“Overview”) with their many qualities. The Sumatran Tiger is suited to live in all types of forests and even by swamps and fresh water, but not in cold climates (“Overview”). They look similar to the Bangle Tiger, but their skin is darker, with a red coat and “broad, black stripes” (Levine, Stuart P. 13). Also, they are the smallest tiger still alive today, weighing between 221- 309 lbs., and 7.3- 8.3 ft in length (Levine, Stuart P. 12 and 16). With a population of “less than 400” and ever increasing threats, the WWF lists these animals as critically endangered (“Overview”).

The two largest threat to the Sumatran tiger are illegal trade of body parts, and secondly habitat destruction. Firstly, Poachers will kill them for their bone, eyes, and skin to use as medicine for diseases such as skin diseases, toothaches, and more. Poaching is responsible for 78% of the tigers decrease in population and poaching hasn’t really decreased since 1990’s (“Threats”). The second biggest threat is habitat destruction, which is forcing them to move into human area. This causes them to be killed, as they are a threat to the humans living there. In the end, all that matters is how you can help. (“Threats”) (Levine, 56, 57)

1

Many people and organisations are helping the Sumatran tiger, yet there are ways that you can help and make a difference. One of the best ways is to adopt a tiger. While doing, this you provide protection for your tiger and are able to get news about it from a distance. Another thing you can do is simply donate money to an organisation that helps, and people will use that money to help protect the tigers. Lastly, help by raising awareness of the threats and get others to help. The more people that help the better of the Sumatran Tiger will be! You

can come and see these tigers in their homeland. They are quite fascinating creatures, but If you wish to save these distinctive looking creature. You must then raises awareness of the threats to them. However, The Sumatran tigers aren’t the only ones out there that are endangered. In fact all tigers are on the endangered list, and the south china tiger has completely disappeared in the wild.

Talk with your feet. Play with you’re heart. But How?

n 2010, there was a combined television audience of 26 billion people who watched the month long FIFA World Cup in South Africa (Joy, Bernard) But if people love to play and watch soccer, it is important to at least know the basic rules in order to understand the game better. For a person who is learning how to play soccer, the rules of the game is the first and most important thing to know and what will happen if you do not follow it.

Rules of Soccer There are a lot of rules that a paid soccer player should follow in order to be successful in the sport but there are a few basic rules that are important to play the game. A match is 90 minutes long, with each half being 45 minutes. The game begins with the referee tossing a coin up and the winning captain decides which goal would he like to defend and whether he would take the first kickoff. All players must use their head, chest or feet to play and move the ball. Only the goalkeeper is allowed to use their hands if they’re in a certain area. The objective of the game is score a goal into the opposition’s goal by using everything from their body except for their hands. (Football Basic Rules)

The Fouls of Soccer There are a lot of fouls that occur in a soccer game like kicking an opponent which would get some kind of

A guy scoring a goal. (Photo from http:// korbartwuhs.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/the-weather-isthere-i-wish-i-were-beautiful )

punishment. A foul may occur due to various reasons like tripping various reasons like tripping somebody, charging or jumping n an opponent, you pushing someone, making a tackle, making contact with an opposition player, or touch the ball with hands (if not goalkeeper). One will know if a foul has occurred if the referee calls it by blowing his whistle. A free kick is awarded from the spot where the foul occurred from. The only time that rule does not apply is when the foul is made in the opposition’s penalty box, in such a case a penalty is awarded instead of a freekick. There are also special rules for goalkeepers that if they do not follow it, it could be called a foul. A goalkeeper can make a foul if they hold the ball for more than six seconds and if they touch the ball with their hands after a throw-in by their teammate (Soccer Rules) .

The consequences of a foul

1

When a foul is made, there is always a consequence to it. It could either in the form of a warning and a card or only a warning. If you argue with the referee, foul a lot, delay the game or show unsportsmanlike behaviour, the referee will give the player a yellow card. If you make a serious foul, be violent against a player or referee, use hands to stop a goal (when not goalkeeper), use bad language or get two yellow cards in a single game, the player would receive a red card. A red card means that player cannot play for the rest of the match. (Kids Sports) One would enjoy watching a game of soccer if one knew more about the rules of the game. The only way that professional soccer players are successful in playing a game of soccer are that they know all of the basic rules and follow it regularly, if not always. It may be true that 26 billion people were watching the soccer world cup but around one out of every ten viewers would know what was happening and why.

First time playing Basketball? Struggling when your shooting? Follow these steps using B.E.E.F method and master your shooting! These are easy to follow through and easy to learn! Picture below can show you how you should grab your ball and how you should form your elbow

Basketball coaches train their players by doing drills and showing them

Balancing everything in your body can be critical and can affect your shooting skills. What I mean by balance is that you stand firmly on your feet in a balanced position, so that you can keep your balance. Place your feet parallel to each other and 30 cm apart. This can help you achieve a better direction of the ball and how the ball travels to the hoop. It also helps you not get much air ball. Balancing might be hard in a real game but if you practice stopping quickly, you can use this skill effectively.

how to improve their shooting skills. Personally, I like to use a skill called B.E.E.F; that is an easy word to memorize and the easiest way that I know how to get a proper form. Remember: better form, better shots. Learning how to shoot means respecting basketball.

You can see that the player that is about to shoot has balance in his position

Looking at the ball closely and controlling the ball with your elbow makes your shooting skills improve. The first E stands for eyes. Make sure you are looking at the hoop while you shoot. You probably don’t want to look down while you shoot, otherwise you won’t be able to do the F from B.E.E.F fast enough. If you look down, you will have no idea what you are shooting at, so make sure your eyes are facing the hoop. The elbow also makes the shooting perfect. It controls the angle of your shot and, sometimes, even the power of your shot. The angle is the most

Spinning the ball can give you a more accurate throw and a better followthrough. Flicking the ball with your finger-

important part though and should be properly formed.

Here you can see a good baseketball player shooting with proper B.E.E.F form.

Did you know? That the first “hoops” were actually just peach baskets and they first backboards were made of wire Or

James Naismith, a teacher at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, is credited with inventing basketball in 1891

Basketball is an interesting sport, almost as popular as soccer. But before it gets too popular, people need to learn how to shoot, and learning how to shoot definitely means respecting some of the most important basketball rules . Ten seconds left in the game and you’re losing by 2 points, would you let the other team win, or score a nice 3-pointer and let your team cheer on to you?

tips can help a lot. This usually controls the power of the ball; for example, if your shooting is too strong, you can flick with your fingertips and it will be controlled. Flicking is not really important but following through with your shot is very important. Let’s say you missed your free throw, but you still have a chance to score again if you

get the rebound.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A MIDFIELDER?

By: Junseo Park F Block 2014-04-15

“It Doesn’t Matter who scores the goal as long as we win the game” This is one of the famous quotes from well-known midfielder.

Mid Fielder? Midfield is the most important position in the soccer game, you need skills such as passing shooting and dribbling. Also, the midfielders are the ones who

make the game flow well because they are the connection between the defenders and strikers.

There are eleven player in the traditional soccer games and there needs to be at least one midfielder to oppose the attack, but it all depends on the team’s strategy. The midfielders are positioned between the strikers and defenders. They have three main roles, however the midfielders can have a lot of roles. This means that midfielders have a lot of different positions such as defensive midfielder and offensive midfielder also a midfielder who can do both roles. (How to Play Midfield in Soccer) 1

There are Roles in Midfielder? There are five common types of midfielders that can usually be found in a team. The Attacking Midfielders help the strikers to score goals. The Defensive Midfielders help to defend the goal. The Central Midfielders are the players that divide the midfielders equally, playing defensive and offensive roles. Box-tobox midfielders are the players who are good at defending and attacking. Wingers are the midfielders who attack from the side. (Football)

Some rabbits are better for keeping than others because they are either smarter or smaller, which makes them easier to train for beginners. But a rabbit’s environment is crucial for them because it might give you a good idea to what rabbit you would like depending on what kind of environment it was used to before. No rabbit is born domesticated so that means it came from the wild and it wasn’t raised by humans its whole life. Calm surrounding is the key because they are able to hear many more sounds that we are able to and detect more than just one from multiple directions at the same time which makes them easily frightened. If you either live in a cool air-conditioned house or a hot heated house then your rabbit must be suitable for those kind temperature changes. If you are going to change the rabbit's environment be aware that they might not like the new changes so it will take them time to get used to the adaption. Like people, sometimes rabbits are better off with another one. Studies show that they cope better with humans when they have a buddy with them. (“Rabbits.” RSPCA )

By Lydia Jeong Somewhere in the world, very cold and snowy, there are beautiful brown, black and white creatures running around having fun which could be your home pet. The Siberian husky has unique characteristics, training issues and health problems that a possible pet owner should know about.

The Siberian Huskies have unique characteristics that differ from other dogs. Huskies have thick, furry coats, almond shaped eyes and a square nose with a curly tail. The male dogs are usually 21 to 23.5 inches tall weighing between 45 and 60 pounds and the female dogs are smaller than the male and are 20 to 22 inches in height, weighing between 35 and 50 pounds. The huskies’ coat is thicker than other dogs to protect them from the cold winter, reflect heat in summer and are usually black and white. They’ve got blue or brown eyes and have pointy black noses. Huskies are better described as wolves rather than dogs and are known to howl, not bark.

Huskies are naturally active dogs that love human interaction. Huskies are similar to cats in that they do not wish to please humans. They love running so you should always keep them on a leash or else they might get lost and take up with another family. Make sure the weather is not too hot when you walk them as they have thick coats. Huskies love humans so they get lonely easily and behave badly when no one is around. They might destroy your house by eating the curtains, chewing pillows and digging holes in the garden and ruining your flowers so be aware!

Siberian Huskies are naturally Arctic dogs, so they don’t like walking on hot, sunny days!

While the Siberian Huskies are able to survive in most extreme weather conditions, they do have certain health problems. Huskies may have hip dysplasia and Cataracts. Hip dysplasia is when the head of the thigh bone doesn’t fit properly into the hip socket which stops the dogs from moving their back legs which is terrible for the huskies who love to run and pull sleds. Cataracts may occur by the age of 2 when cloudiness blocks their eyesight and leads to blindness. However unlike hip dysplasia surgery can make the eye sight better again.

The Siberian husky has unique characteristics, training issues and health problems that a possible pet owner should know about. These intelligent, athletic dogs can pull sleds for extremely long distances in the freezing cold. Therefore, be prepared to provide a husky with a lot of mental and physical exercise if you would like to have one.

Sage Kotsenburg Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly through the air on a snowboard, doing tricks like a back 360, front side and back side grabs and sliding on rails? That is what a snowboarder called Sage Kotsenburg do most days of his life.

Sage Kotsenburg is a snowboarder from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, US (“sage Kotsenburg) that has won many competitions and he has today many sponsors that provide him with his equipment. He was inspired by his brother Blaze who had already started to snowboard when Sage became interested. Sage has had lots of experience over the years and has now won a lot of gold medals. He has a lot of equipment that he uses but like all the greats, he has some equipment that are his absolute favorites. Sage started to snowboard at the age of 5 with his older brother Blaze. His brother had been snowboarding for a while when Sage decided to join and Sage quickly came out as a very talented and bold snowboarder. Sage has been a brave snowboarder right from the start, when he started in competitions he often did tricks that most could not do. Their younger sister, Kirra joined them not long after and since then they have been Sages snowboarding companions. The siblings have practiced for quite a long time and has spent many hours in the slopes practicing technique and tricks. They have dedicated themselves a huge amount of time and as a result both Sage and his sister, who also compete in slopestyle, made it into the US team for the Sochi Olympics. At the Sochi Olympics Sage won gold in slopestyle for men while his sister wasn’t a medalist. Blaze did not make it to the Olympics but Sage does still get a lot of advice from him. For example, 15 min before Sage was going to go for his Olympic race he called his brother and asked for advice about a trick. The trick that he called about is called the Back 1620 Japan Air and has never been tried before. This year was the first year that they had slopestyle in the Olympics and Sage was the first person to win a gold medal for slopestyle and in winning, he also won the first gold medal for team USA in the 2014 winter Olympics.

Sage Kotsenburg To be a professional snowboarder it, besides being talented, requires that you have a lot of equipment such as a snowboard and binding. When a person becomes a professional snowboarder he or she usually get a few sponsors like GoPro or Monster. Sponsors will usually pay for the equipment you need as long as you wear their logo or their brand to show others that you think this is a good equipment. When you snowboard all day it is important that you have an equipment to keep warm in the cold weather.

There are lots of different events in a snowboarding competition such as halfpipe, freestyle, slalom and slopestyle. Sage specializes in the event called slopestyle. Slopestyle is when you ride in slope with ramps and rails trying to score as many points as possible on the way down. Sage has been competing in slopestyle since he was 12 and is extremely talented. His first big competition was in a 2008 grand prix for snowboarding. He has been on the podium 10 times in competitions like the3 Winter X-games, grand prix and world cups since he started to compete in big snowboard competitions in 2008. As you understand, Sage is a great snowboarder with quite a bit of talent and he has made a lot of money on his sport. I think that Sage will continue with his career because he is only twenty years old and most people that are in the Olympics go till they are a bit older than that. Wouldn’t it be fantastic, Sage Kotsenburg defending his gold medal in slopestyle in the 2018 Olympics in Pyeong Change in South Korea?

Pointe was created in the 17th century Most ballerinas wear out 2-3 pairs of pointe shoes per week One tutu costs up to 1076pounds to make That same tutu requires 60-90 hours of labor and 100yards of ruffle! A three-hour ballet performance is roughly equivalent to two 90minute soccer games back to back or running 18 miles. Pointe shoes add a minimum of 7 inches of new height to a dancer.

THEY KNEW WHAT IT TOOK TO BECOME A SUCCESFULL BALLERINA DO YOU?

Success at Its Finest By Titilayomi Abiodun

"Dancers are not great because of their talent...they are great because of their passion" –Unknown (Ballet and Dance

Quotes.). Darcy Bussel, Alina Cojocaru and Uliana Lopatkina all had the same passion, a passion to dance and a dream to become a famous dancer, but if you want something you have to work hard to get the kind success you want, and they worked hard to do what they do now , how hard did they have to work? Starting at the academy of Russian ballet at an early age Uliana Lopatkina enjoyed many good victories during her dance career. Uliana was 19 when she graduated from the Academy of Russian Ballet and became a dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre ("Ulyana Lopatkina: Biography"). Having her first debut at the age of 22 as the leading role Odette in Swan Lake a very popular ballet. And a year after her debut she was titled principal dancer. Throughout her career she played lead roles in productions like Giselle, Medora in Corsaire, Nikya in La Bayadere and Raymonde. As she made accomplishments on stage she also had some off stage like Honored artist of Russia, but one of the most amazing accomplishments she made was being able to perform at the 2010 Olympics. What is she doing now? Well Uliana is the mother of Masha as well as still having a strong love for dance. Alina Cojocaru born in Kiev("ALINA COJOCARU - So Far.." ), had trained for seven years before joining the Royal Ballet School she worked hard during those seven years and even harder at ballet school. After six months she returned to Kiev to become a principal dancer at

2

the company there. This was a quite accomplishment for Alina because becoming a principal dancer is every ballerinas dream. After a year she moved on to the Royal Ballet Company and at the end of that season she was promoted to a soloist. Later on Sir Anthony Dowell promoted Alina to a principal dancer after he saw her dance as Giselle a leading role. And more recently Alina joined the English National Ballet as a Leading Principal Dancer. Obviously she will continue to dance traveling the world and doing what she loves. Darcy Bussle began ballet at the age of 13("Darcey Bussell's Official Website." ) although quite an old age she train harder than anyone because she knew this was what she wanted to do with her life. When Darcy went to dance school everyone in her age group were more advanced than her because they had started dancing, so earlier while most girls relaxed after school would go back to the studio and practice her pointe. All of that hard work she had finally made it into the Royal Ballets Upper School for higher levelled dancers at the age of sixteen. While still at school she received a leading role in the ballet ‘The Prince of The Pagodas’. This soon led to her becoming a dancer at the Royal Ballet Company she was also given the honour to become the youngest principal dancer at the time. Currently Darcy has two daughters but still dances. They say that is takes a lot of discipline to become a ballet dancer, that it isn’t something you just do you have to know you could actually accomplish something with it and then work hard towards that goal. Darcy Bussel, Alina Cojocaru and Uliana Lopatkina all knew what to do to get to their goal and although they are three different people that have probably never met each other they all had the same goal. What would you do for something you wanted to do for the rest of your life whether it be a sport, dance or some other talent would you work hard to make sure that you got the dream you wanted or would you give up once things got to ‘hard’?

Pretty Makes Perfect Appearance on a dancer means a lot. As I see ballerinas on a stage leaping around the stage I notice buns so perfect, even when they jump ten feet of the floor not a speck of hair falls out, I then notice what keeps that bun up is their perfect posture, without the posture their buns would just drop down to the ground. Whilst ballerinas dance on the stage their pretty leotards and tutu’s just glow and make the show so much better and it gives life to the dance. As appearance on a ballerina is very important ballerinas have to have a good posture, correct clothing, and neat buns.

Clothing

Examples of leotards and posture Posture Posture is probably the most important skill to have to be a ballerina. The reason why is, without appropriate posture you wouldn’t have a lot of things, such as balance as your posture is pretty much what holds you up and as you see ballerinas lifting their legs up high and keeping it there for some time you see their posture is perfect and straight if they didn’t have that posture they’d flop down in a second. To have that posture it takes a very straight back chin up as eye line is so important your balance goes immediately without eye line

Ballerinas wear such unique clothing such as leotards and tutu’s and shoes that you can stand on the tip of your toes with also known as pointe shoes. Don’t you sometimes wonder why? And no it isn’t because it looks really pretty. There are reasons for it all. Leotards, they are worn so that it is easier to dance in, as if you were wearing a shirt and jeans for instance when leaping you might just tear your jeans, and your shirt would fly up as you gracefully leap around. This is why wearing a leotard is so much better as it is a one piece and won’t annoy you as you dance. Also it is tight fitting and you can see how hard you’re working this leads back to posture. Tutu’s are worn so that it you can see if your posture is correct, for instance if you are sitting into your hip one side of your tutu will go straight up and you can see a big slant in your body, so tutu’s help to notify you of your posture as well.

Different examples of ‘pointe shoes’

Buns When dancing your hair can be a great problem. Ballerinas are therefore made to wear a bun. This helps tremendously when dancing as it keeps everything up and proper it also helps with eye alignment as it pretty much pulls your hair back so hard that your alignment is much more focused and it just reminds you to keep your head up. Also it prevents your hair from falling all over the place as you keep moving around your hair doesn’t get in the way. Also if you have very long hair it could be a good way to prevent tripping or falling.

Different examples of ballerina buns

Ballet is a very well-known type of dance and there are lots of different intricate and unique types of clothes that ballerinas wear, such as leotards, and pointe shoes, to show of this unique clothing they have to have a good posture and to put the cherry on the top the perfect bun. As appearance on a ballerina is very important, ballerinas have to have a good posture, correct clothing and neat buns. It takes a lot to be a ballerina. A main part of being a ballerina is to have a neat and pretty bun, this counts for a lot when dancing, and you must have a good posture to keep that bun held nice and high up so everything just comes together for you to perfect being a ballerina.
