Our site at Porta Romana will host the particular evolving programme of the sustainable Temporary village for the 2026 Olympic games with a long term scope of becoming a student housing complex by 2030 giving all the attention and focus to how to transform this impermeable void into an ecological and resilient threshold.

TH E S T U DY We studied the site in terms of its geographical, geometrical and historical evolution. The analysis of the site through this way let us understand the potentialities and the constraits of our space that we were going to design. We realised that our site was located in a strategic position which could easily be considered a limit and hence required a strategic solution to convert it into a threshold opening up numerous possible connections. Our idea was to create a space that was sensitive to climate emergencies by focusing on grey to green ration and to use the void to our advantage. Hence our three main desired outcomes from the project were : Connect II Enhance II Improve

2. MASTERPLAN In our case our 3 desired outcomes which happen to be the pillars of our strategy were too general (but not in a negative way) to reconcile and required different tools and design solutions in order to get a coherent urban, landscape and architectural project. Our masterplan design was based on these major tools starting with SPINE as the basic connecting the east to west. The spine is an elevated promenade 6m on top of the railway line that joins the 3 thresholds : Corso Lodi, Via Giuseppe Ripamonti and Via carlo Bazzi. The FINGERS which are in fact buildings “touch” each side of the city edge to link it to the spine.They represent transversal and vertical connections between the streets and the spine but also between the park and the spine itself in order to ensure transversal crossing between north and south. The TOWER is statement, a designation serving the identity of Porta Romana and creates a new dynamicity in the skyline. In the project we have 2 towers at the endings/ beginnings of the spine, they are in fact the 2 direction goals at the ending of the promenade and both act as enclosures at the level of the thresholds Corso Lodi and Via Carlo Bazzi.

ACCESSIBILITY AND CONNECTIVITY Here you can see the 3D visualisation of the space before and after the interventions that we make based on the strategies and tools. The first image starting from the top shows the main underground plaza that connects the underground metro and the project space itself creating one of the main connections. The second image shows how the spine and the finger at the end connects to the design by creating a public open air theatre.The third image shows one of the main entrance from corso lodi thats created by the spine itself. And the last image shows interiors of one of the fingers and how we try to keep the fingers partially transparent to connect to the outside and also use them to create connections between the ground, the spine and also to the history of the space-thats the train itself.

1. 6. BIRD’S EYE VIEW

Starting from the rupture condition of the railway reality to overturn it into a connective axis was the first basis of this project, although it might not seem as important as air quality or depaving operations (which are still very important), we have shown in this project how a return to the city, a recycling of infrastructures and an improvement of permeability and connectivity enhances the quality of the city experience and creates positive repercussions in a sustainable and resilient backdrop for our environments.The spine becoming a linking dispositive is able to distribute flows and generate activities and social interactions, while the architectural composition reverses the standards of city patterns and creates its own hybrid identity from the context though ensuring a diversity of functions and programmes.The Eco park on the other hand is a great step in the regeneration and consolidation of the green system of Milan, it brings a breath of air into this dense and fast city, both literally and metaphorically, and restores a declining ecosystem. As a conclusion, this whole project from overall strategy to small design details aims at creating new and reviving existing dynamics, whether it be economical through development of recycling and barter systems, new retail, service and functions, or socially through engaging public spaces, labs and nature oriented workshops or environmentally through soft mobilities, responsible choices and more green over gray. When looking forward to the future we hope this city we called home for over two years becomes a precursor in new ways of living and surviving. Amidst this anthropocene era where industry, profit, globalization and consumerism have taken the hand over cooperation, equity, humanity and nature, we foresee a ray of hope and a shift of paradigm.

II. GRATOSOGLIO- A GREEN MOVE Professor: Silja Tillner, Andrea Parma Tutor: Lorenzo De Vidovich, Bilal El Ghoul Team: Bourgeois Fien, Marroun Jihane, Somalinga Krishnakumar Mrudulaa, Van Rooy Emmelien For the third semester of masters , the urban design thematic Studio focused its attention on the neighbourhood of Gratosoglio, located in the southern periphery of Milan. Gratosoglio is at the periphery, but also a sort of “peri-urban” context, as it presents itself as an inhabited enclave encapsulated between two corridors.Where Gratosoglio used to be a newly built, lively social neighbourhood in the 1960s, it is now in need of a social revitalization through community building and regeneration of the built environment and public spaces. Furthermore, strategies should be implemented to lower the ecological footprint of the currently car-owned neighbourhood. To solve the current social and ecological issues, we introduce a green move in Gratosoglio. Along a newly connected path from east to west, identity is brought back in terms of a community hub, porta (gateway) and green linkage. New spaces for social interaction and ecological strategies will encourage Gratosoglio to move towards a lively and sustainable future.

1. THE STUDY The neighbourhood of Gratosoglio frames in a context of suburbanization during the 1960s. Unfortunatily, the modern architecture led to a neighbourhood with lack of activities and good outdoor spaces made Gratosoglio lose its social interaction. The motive of the project is to bring the human aspect and enhance the neighbourhood by choosing a focus area in the site and hoping it to perform as a prototype idea. Back in the 1960s, when the modernist slabs and towers were only just built in Gratosoglio, the neighbourhood had a lively social cohesion thanks to initiatives of families and organizations. Children still played in the streets, the church played an active role and cars had not taken over the open space yet. Unfortunately, Gratosoglio lost this sense of belonging and identity through the years. The once homogenous social group of residents became diverse due to social transformations and immigration flows. Today, the neighbourhood and its inhabitants are clearly not yet adapted to these changes. Besides, in the light of current sustainability concerns, the neighbourhood designed for cars raises questions involving the environment and the open spaces

2.

THE STRATEGY- 1 PATH, 3 ZONES We’re bringing a new path to Gratosoglio. A new track which sets the tone for the rest of the area. By introducing a new path, which enhances the permeability and brings back identity to the area, a new story may begin. This path connects the west to the east within Gratosoglio, by connecting the river area (where the river is the canal Lambro meridionale), with the neighbourhood entrance at the tram stops. Along this path, three zones can be identified, each giving a different identity to the area and new functions for the inhabitants to use. The river area may spark a sense of community. By densifying the building blocks and introducing the concept of a living street, a real community hub can be created.On the east side, where the tram stops connect the neighbourhood to the city of Milan, the transformation of the current migration centre together with a new sense of direction towards the main piazza (square), makes the zone into the porta of Gratosoglio. Last but not least, a green linkage, including a central aromatic garden and community gardens, connects the community hub to the porta whilst creating a green lung along the path. To obtain these functioning zones, we introduce new buildings, which enclose or form different clusters of new public or semi-public spaces. By adapting the street hierarchy, the car impact on the neighbourhood can be reduced and lively street live can occur. Other ecological strategies include the addition of new trees and greenery, green walls and roofs, solar panels, rain water collectors and climate refugee spots. The latter are introduced in current hot spots, visible on the heat diagram of the neighbourood.

III. INFORMAL HEALING CENTER Professor: Stefania Varvaro , Luca Alberto Pitera Tutor: Federico Silini, Selcen Sozuneri, Omid Mohammadi, Team: Andra Archip, Martina Buzzo, Somalinga Krishnakumar Mrudulaa In the second semester of the masters, the interior design studio focused on redesigning the medical home by retaining the structural system of the existing building in Fiorenzuola ,Province of Piacenza. The project aim also included to redo the complete landscaping of the project. Hence our aim was to produce a landscape idea to play with the directional visual cones and to keep the interiors as adaptable and flexible as possible. The furnitures were also made modular so as to utilize the restricted space to the maximum.

IV. PROFESSIONAL WORKS- INTERNSHIP WORK | PRACTICE The drawings in the following pages are from my internship and my architectural practice as a junior architect. I worked on various projects like residence, institutions, commerce and offices. I worked in detail on revit on a school project in my internship. I also got to work on schemes of a residence and also few other technical drawings like structural, electrical drawings, etc. During practice, I worked on various different types of works from schemes to technical drawings and the facades and others. V. OTHER INTERESTS I have numerous hobbies and they include art in various mediums starting from manual to digital illustrations. I have always loved to experiment with new techniques and learn more. I also love music - to sing and to listen and am also an amateur ukelele player at present. In the following pages you can see all my various artworks that I have put my soul into.
