Craters Of The Moon Craters of the Moon is a preserve and was established on May 2, 1924 but became preserved on August 21, 2002. It has 3 major lava fields. It is located in the Snake River Plain,Central Idaho. It is 1,117 square miles long and is 5,900 feet above sea level.
