LIBRARY CARDS The library maintains a listing of students and staff at the circulation desk, so library cards are not distributed to users.

Renewals can be processed in person.

RESOURCES CATALOG Find materials online! The Midland High School’s book catalog allows patrons to search for the availability of books in our collection online from any home or school computer. Simply visit the library’s website and select “Search the Collection.” Patrons may search by title, author, subject and keyword.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES The library subscribes to several electronic databases for academic research. The databases are available from any Internet-accessible computer. Please ask a media center staff member for passwords so that you may access the following databases from home:  EBSCO  ProQuest  Facts on File  OCLC First Search

READERS ADVISORY Not sure what to read? Do you need help locating an interesting book to read for fun or related to class? Just ask a librarian for assistance. If we don’t have what you need on the shelves, we can borrow it via interlibrary loan!

RESEARCH, WRITING AND WEB 2.0 ASSISTANCE Our librarians are trained to assist users with research and writing challenges. If students or staff members require help with a research problem (s)he is encouraged to ask the librarian for help. Additionally, patrons with questions about Web 2.0 technologies or desire guidance with writing projects may seek the assistance of a trained librarian by requesting help at the circulation desk.

About the Library Welcome to the Media Center at Midland High School! The library is an active teaching facility offering a collection of more than 7,000 books, periodicals and videos. Students can access thousands of current, peer-reviewed journal articles, images, maps, government documents and other resources through the library’s electronic database subscriptions.

In support of the Midland CUSD #7 mission, the Midland High School library media program's mission is to help each student excel and achieve maximum potential by creating a 21st Century learning environment, fostering a love of reading, and promoting the effective use of information technology. Through collaboration, the library media faculty partners with the larger Midland CUSD #7 community to empower students in becoming life-long learners, responsible citizens, and analytical problem solvers.

Interlibrary Loans Patrons may borrow books not in our collection from other libraries. Please as a librarian for assistance.

Technology Twelve Internet accessible desktop computers are available in the library’s computer lab, along with color and black-and- white printers. Three Internet accessible

laptop computers may be checked out by students and staff. The library also provides a Promethean whiteboard, TV carts, ELMO projector, and computer carts with LCD projector.

eReaders

Borrowing and Reserving Materials Students may check out most library materials for two weeks and renew the items if no other patron reserves them. Reference books have an overnight checkout.

Two Kindles and Sony eReaders may be checked out by library patrons. More than 150 electronic books are available, ranging from classics to contemporary, awardwinning fiction.
