“Serving in Harmony” Greetings Lions!

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS…that is the inspiring message International President Barry Palmer has set forth for this year. He is very passionate about our dreams and achieving them to the fullest. We were very inspired by President Palmer in Germany and I feel compelled to continue that passion on to you and your clubs. I am challenging each and every club to think about your Dream for your club and your community. During our DG training classes we were given the task of creating a DREAMBOARD to explain what our dreams and goals for our Lions clubs were all about. This was a very enlightening task because we found that some dreams are reached quickly and some take a little longer, but each dream was attainable if you take one step at a time. We all need DREAMS. We all need something to work toward, look forward to and we all need to experience the feeling when those dreams are finally achieved. I am challenging each club to Dream a Dream…set something in motion to achieve. It doesn’t have to be a long range Dream, it can be a short term Dream…you decide, but know that each DREAM requires you to “REACH FOR THE STARS…” Take time to make a DREAMBOARD of your

own for your club. Think about what you want to achieve for your club and community. Start by each member bringing words and pictures to put on your board to be a constant reminder of your DREAM. Bring your boards to your Fundraisers and community events. Show your DREAMS to others, you may be surprised what directions your DREAMS may take in ways you never thought possible. During our Mid -Winter Convention, display your boards in your hospitality rooms. I would like to see what our district can and will achieve. Remember, the foundation you lay today builds hope for tomorrow. I am so excited to visit with all of you this year and experience Lionism with the best district in the world! You are all dedicated Lions and have the heart and soul to serve those in need and make a better tomorrow for people in your community and the world around you. Each day you serve as a Lion you are making someone else’s DREAM come true. District Governor Sonjia Wagner “LIONS SERVING IN HARMONY”

July 2013 To All 5M-5 members; Well another year is just beginning and there are lots of great news coming your way from your District Governor Sonjia and our International President Berry. The theme this year is “Follow your Dream”. If you go to www.lionsclubs.org then go to follow your dream on the front page. There is lots of information for all the members to soak up. International Berry is reminding us that Service is our identity. I agree with this due to our motto is “We Serve”. To strengthen our clubs and District is “Just ask” and “Membership Satisfaction”. Just go to the website and you will learn a lot of the Dream. International President Berry and our District Governor is asking that we “Engage Our Youth” So on the International website is the search window type “Engaging our Youth” Our District is very fortunate to have 6-7 Leo clubs and growing. Our young will lead us in our future and present. We have Leo’s that we can engage in projects and participate in planning. Helping the Leo’s grow will also help us to grow. We are sharing with the young and the old. Things that we have forgotten will be brought back by the youth.

Tuesday night July 23, 2013 the Brooklyn Park Lions host the exchange kids from Camp Spicer to give the staff a break for one night. 35 kids and host families at PDG Jack Hines home in Rogers. 1 Vice DG Diane Nokk and 2 Vice DG Bill Moore were there to meet the kids and host family. I like to thank Brenda Reeves for setting up the party. I also, would like to thank all the host families that took 1-4 kids for one night. I would like to come to all clubs this fall and winter to speak about youth exchange. I would come to your club to talk about how to host kids for next year. And send kids over sea’s. and how much fun it is to host the kids. Contact me to arrange a meeting to: Tom Nokk 763-300-6027 or email me at ditomnokk@comcast.net. Lion Tom Nokk; Youth Exchange Chair

We have a lot of work to do this year with all ages and I look forward to be part of this exciting time. We all work together and make this happen will be exciting. I hope that this news letter finds all having a safe and fun summer. August will be just as busy with summer projects and the Great Minnesota get together. Look forward seeing Lions and Leo’s working at the fair. Don’t forget the Eye, Hearing and Diabetes booth. Hope to see all at the Zone Meeting and at a fund raiser. Just remember “we serve” and “Follow your Dream”. Lion Diane Nokk 1st Vice District Governor

In the Spring of 2012, six members of the Eden Prairie Lion’s Club and one Eden Prairie Lioness stepped forward to help form a local chapter of “Let’s Go Fishing” (LGF), making Eden Prairie the 30th city in the State of Minnesota to offer the LGF program. LGF is a non-profit 501C3 organization focused on enriching the lives of individuals by providing free fishing and boating excursions in the greater Eden Prairie community. The next step for these Eden Prairie volunteers was to purchase a 29 foot tri-hull pontoon boat, which is completely handicap accessible. Working thru LGF’s home office in Willmar, MN., the boat, motor, trailer, and lots of fishing equipment was purchased. On July 23rd of last year, the pontoon went into operation, and thanks to the hard work of several Lions and Lioness, has been very busy since. Lions from Edina, Bloomington and Eden Prairie are the backbone of this chapter. The Eden Prairie Area Let’s Go Fishing chapter offers free fishing and boating excursions in three major areas: Seniors, Veterans, and Youth in grades three thru seven. They also work very closely with the City of Eden Prairie, which offers LGF programs thru the Community Education department. Eden Prairie’s pontoon proudly displays the Lion’s emblem, as three different Lions clubs have donated to this very worthy cause, and our volunteers are 75% Lions members, and nine of Eden Prairie’s Board are Lions. And yes, The Eden Prairie LGF chapter is always looking for more volunteers and donations, as they work to pay off the pontoon loan and operating costs. The Eden Prairie Lions have already signed up one new member as a result of their involvement with Let’s Go Fishing within the community, with hopefully more to come. LGF is a great program for the community, as it shows Lions living out their motto, “We Serve”. For more information about the Let’s Go Fishing program, or to schedule a free fishing or excursion ride on Eden Prairie’s pontoon, call Lion Mike Gruidl at (952) 937-9024.
