Focus Engagement

Different focal points within the building and outside the building depending on the type of activities. In some places, focus is created on the activity or performance using light as an element and in individual studios focus is created on the instrument.

LOCATION: WHITEIELD, BANGALORE

Whitefield is a suburban turned city with numerous software parks, malls and five star hotels. It is now an emerging hub for the performing arts with a lot of upcoming music, dance and theatre schools and is known for its cultural diversity.

The site is well connected by means of public transports with a Metro station within 1km radus and bus stops within 500m from the entry points. The two site entry points were decided with respect to the traffic such that the neighbouring IT and school traffic doesn’t get clashed during peak hours.

Engagement is the key parameter used through the campus right from the entryway where the visitor or public see open performance activities happening such that they take part in the activity. All the studios are porous and the user within the campus tend to engage with the varied activities independent on their interests. focus is created on the instrument.

Acoustic Interaction

Acoustically treated interiors and buffer areas created to cancel the external noise from penetrating into the activities.

Interaction happening at multiple levels within and outside the building blocks.

Strengths

- The site boundaries are adjacent to the primary roads on three sides making it easily accessible to the metro stations and bus stops.

- The site is located close to a residential zone with lots of PGs and hostels.

- The roads might cause noise and disturb the outdoor performing activities.

- Alternative cooling methods are necessary to tackle with the prevailing heat conditions.

Weakness

- The site is located amidst IT parks and commercial zones and the site itself will act as a destination for the locals.

Oppurtunities

- The closely located academic institutions might use the site for performances.

- Nallurahalli lake can act as an extension to the site and create a breakout for the students.

- The number of site entries should be restricted for safety purposes and kept monitored.

- There might be a traffic congestion during peak hours from the IT parks.
